Where to Deliver Baby 4

I am 21 weeks pregnant with baby 4 (due days before XMAS) and have been thinking about delivering at Allen Presbyterian this time around. My twin girls were born at Medical Center Plano because they were born early and needed to have the level 3 NICU, and my little boy was born last year at McKinney Medical Center. My doctor no longer delivers in Plano since Frisco has opened so even though I loved that hospital its not a choice. My experience with Mckinney last year was fine but I hated how crowded it was and was hoping that Allen might not be as crowded. We are having a repeat c-section so I will be there around 3 days so I wanted to make sure it was someplace that me, my husband, since he usually stays, and the baby will be comfortable and well taken care of.

What can I do next?

I just had my baby girl on the 18th at Centennial Medical Center in Frisco and absolutely loved it. Quiet, friendly, clean and very happy pleasant staff. Food was good too.
The nurses are friendly and not drill sargent like same with the lactating nurses.

I heard Centennial Medical Center in Frisco wasn't crowded and very nice, but that was about a year ago, so I am not sure now. It is very new, so it is probably very state of the art.

I just gave birth at Frisco's Centennial Medical Center in April. Our experience was excellent. My husband and I both were treated superbly by everyone there. The facility is very nice and they have several little "touches" like the white linen celebration meal that were special. The birthing room didn't feel so much like a hospital at all. It was very comfortable and spacious. The waiting areas have a "resort" feel and they're comfortable for visitors. Your room only has 3 chairs so if you plan on having lots of visitors at one time, just know they may have to take shifts in the room. We also liked the fact that we could order meals for my husband from the daily menu for about $2 so that he could eat with me without having to leave to go get food. This was also convenient since the cafeteria has limited hours. I'm not sure if crowding will be a problem. When we were there, there were only about 3 other babies in the nursery but some of the other couples from our childbirth class said the nursery was a little crowded when they gave birth the weekend after a big storm in March. I don't think the nursery population can be controlled. You never know. You can e-mail me privately with specific questions if you have them.

Our son was born in Allen 4 1/2 years ago and it was a great experience. I had some complications with the delivery so was there for several days and the staff was wonderful. The only complaint we had was the chair that made into a bed for my husband was terribly uncomfortable. They may have changed them since then, though. I would definitely check that out if your husband plans to spend the night in your room.

Well just a thought. I did not have a baby in Allen Hosp but I was there a couple of weeks ago in the ER and they were good in the ER although I was admitted in the hosp and was there for 3days. My girls stayed the night with me twice and the nurses were hardly around, I had an IV in and so many times it would beep like crazy and they wouldnt come and it would run out of fluid and I would try to get them to come constantly. I finally figured out how to turn it off once and they didnt know for 4hrs or more that I had did it, and only did it since I called them twice about it beeping like an alarm and they wouldnt come and at least 3other times when beeping I fig how to reset because it was low on fluid..I had been throwing up alot and was given a bed pan and while throwing up they would come in and see me and turn and walk out and not offer any water, wet towel or even take the bedpan from me and help out and I was so drugged up I couldnt get out of the bed with IV plugged up and rails up. I had a pile of towels in the bathroom in the corner of the floor the whole time I was there and was never given a new urine catch, it was paper and I had to use it for the 3days, nor did they come and check my catch as they were supposed to and I just poured it out myself so it wouldnt overflow.. I was supposed to have surgery and the doc decided to leave out of town and left another to tend to me which I saw once and told me he'd do the surg the next day because so busy with appt and such and then didnt do the surgery but was told it would be done the next day and still he didnt come but had nurses to tell me I could be discharged. They did not clean my room one day there nor took out the trash or anything. I did not know I had to call and order my food myself until I figured it out. When I called them they rarely came or it took hrs. When I came home turned out me and the girls got lice while there as well......... It was a terrible experience and I will never go to Allen again.. I would go with Frisco. I will go there or Mckinney from now on.

J.,

I had both of my babies at Presby Allen and they are great! They now have a NICU (care for babies as early as 32 weeks). My second child was born 5 weeks early and they had a whole team of NICU care for him. Presby Allen is very nice, with large private rooms. The nurses were hit and miss (I stayed a total of 3 1/2 days with baby #2, so I got lots of different nurses), but you will get that anywhere. Most of them were super nice, but we did get one who was too controlling.

You won't go wrong with Presby Allen. My OBGYN is William Weise and I HIGHLY recommend him. He's a good Christian man with a very calm demeanor. He delivers ALL his babies...he does not rotate with other doctors like many OB's are doing these days.

Good Luck and God BLESS!!

I just had my first baby 3 months ago at Allen Preby and had the most amazing experience. We loved the hospital and the nurses-they were so great and really took great care of all of us. It was not busy but a really calm relaxing environment. My husband spent the night and did not complain about the sleeping arrangements. I think you will be in good hands at Allen Preby and their lacation consulatants are amazing!!
