Where to Buy Shoes/sneakers for a Toddler?

Hi mamas! I have a soon-to-be 2 year old son and I have a hard time finding nice and affordable shoes/sneakers for him. We used to buy from BabiesRus/ToysRus but they mostly carry smaller baby shoes. I was able to find only one type of sneakers his size there (he is a size 7, I think).
Unfortunately, DSW (where I get my shoes) doesn't carry kids shoes. :-(
Any suggestions for places to buy shoes/sneakers for toddlers in Madison, WI or online?
And any shoe brand/type suggestions?

What can I do next?

I just ordered a pair from http://preschoolians.com/

I haven't received them yet, but I like the premise that "barefoot is best".

We usually buy my son Nike/Adidas at Rackroom. I don't know if you have them in Madison, but they usually have the buy one/get one half off sale.

And by the way, my son wears those "knock off" crocs that another mother posted about. He only wears them in summer. We live in Florida and spend most of the day by the pool/at the beach. They are covenient to wear and clean and I do not think that makes me a lazy mother. And I think they look cute. :) Good luck finding the right shoes

Try Famous Footwear, in the same shopping center as Target on Junction Rd. They often have buy one pair, get one half off sales. Stride Rite in Hilldale does a nice job fitting kids for shoes. Although they are a little more expensive, but good quality. The Shoe Box in Black Earth is a huge shoe store with both kids and adults shoes.

Online- Zappos.com has tons of shoes and they ship and return for free. Their shipping is very fast!!

Children's shoes are the one thing I do not skimp on. growing feet need proper shoes or you're setting your child up for feet/posture problems down the road.

In our area Nordstrom is the place to go. They have excellent service, patient and well trained employees to fit your child's shoes.

My daughter has to wear shoes all day in daycare and I hear the teachers complain about how some children just don't come with with proper shoes. Crocs, while they may be convenient are the number one offender! Sometimes they will have some kids that have to stay inside, because they are not wearing proper footwear (for example when it's wet out). Sad!

I often find high quality footwear for my daughter on sale for around $25 (instead of $60) and would rather that she has one really good pair of shoes than 10 really cheap and crappy ones...

I would have to second the motion for Target. Their shoes are good quality. Walmart's shoes are cheap, meaning they are cheap!!!
Whatever you do, dont get those "croc" knock-offs. Those shoes are SO STUPID looking. When I see a kid with those on, I see a lazy mother right along with them.

I am in PA, so I don't know if or how this will help you, but we have a Stride Rite outlet store within an hour of our home. My son started out with extra wide feet, and this was the only place I could get quality shoes that came in shoe widths. You can buy Stride Rite shoes online, but I don't know if there is a Stride Rite outlet online or in your area? The outlet prices are definitely better than the regular store, but still a little on the more expensive side, although not ridiculous. The added plus of going to a Stride Rite is that they measure your child's feet.

I'm getting ready to break down and go to Stride Rite because my son has a wide foot. I have to drive 30 minutes to get to one so I haven't done it yet. Up to now I've been buying his shoes at Target and Walmart, mostly Target though, they are cuter.

Online: Amazon.com, Kohls.com, famous footwear.com

Places to go to
Shoe Carnival
Famous Footwear-
Marshalls
Rack Room Shoes- not sure if you have one near you.

I have never been a fan of Wal-Mart, Target or Payless shoes. My son has wore through them pretty fast, plus his feet peel really bad when wearing a cheaper shoe. I find brand name clearance shoes all the time, it just takes some looking around.

Also check to see if you have a Nike outlet near you, they have great deals.

Target, Payless and Children's Place are all good places to find shoes. My daughter is in a Size 7 as well and most of her shoes come from Stride-Rite (purchased by my mom!). I would also look up Toddler Size 7 shoes on Amazon.com. They have a ton on there!

Do you have a Stride Rite store there? You cannot beat their service, measuring & thee shoes are sturdy & will def outlast the foot growth. They are a bit pricey but worth it for early walkers! You can always put the outgrown ones on craigslist or eBay to recoup about half of the purchase price.

I really like Target's shoes for kids. They're cute and durable as well as a decent price. You can also find good sales on websites such as The Children's Place and Gymboree.
