OK...we have tried putting it in the front hall entry way, the study, the laundry room, the spare bathroom, the spare bedroom. I am trying to find out if you all have any great ideas about the best place to put the kitty litter box, and if you all have suggestions about the best kitty litter. We have two cats that we love, but we can't stand the kitty litter. Seems even when we clean the box twice a day it still smells...any suggestions???

Hi J., I have 2 cats and I use World's Best Cat Litter. No Kidding that is the name and it really is! NAYY. It is made from corn husks. Completely flushable and clumps great. I clean the box a couple of times a day and it never smells. It is a bit more expensive, but in the long run I clean the box out less often with much better results. If you have an odor issue you might try a spray called Zero Pet Odor. (www.zeropetodor.com) This has no perfume or smell of its own, it just kills that smell. Last but not least I had baby gate at the entry to the bathroom. We removed one piece of a vertical bar and made a cat passage. Hope this helps, Nana

J., We had trouble with keeping our dog out of the box. We also didn't want it to been seen. We ended up putting it in a closet and cutting a small doggy door on the closet. This worked for us. Good luck!

My neighbor has a doggie door to her garage and the litter boxes are at the far end (near the garage door) of the garage. I thought that was a great idea...the litter falls off the kitty as she makes her way from the corner to the door...you never smell litter and when you are changing the box...you are near a trash. She actually had to do two doggie doors..one into the washroom and then the one out to the garage.

Hope that helps,
K.

We put our 2 boxes in our guest bathroom cabinet w/ a small kitty door installed in the side of the cabinet behind the toilet. We also have child-proof locks on the doors so the kids can't get to it. We don't get to use the cabinet for anything else, but it's worked to keep dogs & kids away. We also have 2 cats and haven't had any odor problems unless it goes over 5 or 6 days between cleaning (it's my husband's job ... so it does occassionally). We use Scoop Away w/ Crystals from Walmart or Petsmart. Nothing else seemed to work as well. Good luck.

In our last two houses, my husband put in a cat door into our garage and we keep the litter box out there! It works out great because no one is walking over the nasty litter and smelling it anymore! :) We keep it as far away from the house as possible! And the door isn't too hard to install....you can buy them at Home Depot or Lowe's! Good luck!

The suggestions about the doggy door is good but I don't have any doors I would want to cut holes in. Scoopable is best definately. They say cats may not go in litter that too perfumed. You could line the box that helps. But no, I don't find any place good for the litter box. If I new what I know now I would have never gotten a cat. yuk yuk yuk

We have ours in the laundry room which is upstairs. For the past 5-6 years we have used a covered litter box (you can find them at Petsmart, target or walmart). The opening to the box is towards the wall, so when you walk into the laundry room you see the back of the box, you can't see inside of it. The top of the lid has a charcole filter that catches the oder. We also use the litter bags (like trash bags) which lines the box and when it's time to change it, you just left it up like your kitchen garbage bage. I buy what ever cat litter is on sale. ps, don't buy the self cleaning boxes. The teeth get clumped up with you-know-what...yuk.

Good luck!
