I want network with even more moms who have children who struggle in school. I want to have a support system through a social network like Plaxo, Linked-In, or Facebook. Please tell me the network beyond Mamasource that is used most often by YOU! Thanks so much MOMS!

I'm on Facebook...but that is more for my "me" time, rather than mommy time...I am on cafeMom...TONS of different groups, there is something for everyone...can't imagine you'd be disappointed.

If you're looking for strictly online you could try wwww.about.com They have lots of parenting forums. Also is wwww. delphiforums.com They have tons of forums, just watch out for the political ones. Unless your'e interested, they can be nasty. I personally loved about.com when I was pregnant and they have a forum that isjust for parents of teens with special needs.

The best thing I EVER did as a mother or otherwise was join Cafemom. I am on Cafemom every day and use it much more than Facebook or any other social site. I just feel the community is more friendly and we can all relate, plus there are groups for everything and you can start your own too!

Try meetup.com - I believe they charge fees to create a group but not 100% sure... but its a great way to create a group for a specific cause.

A friend recently introduced me to a network called:
www.meetup.com

Once you register (which is free to join, but there is a fee if you "host" a meetup group)you can join any of the groups they have. What's nice about this network is that many of the gorups have impromptu meetings (called meetups), and some have scheduled weekly or monthly meetups. I'd suggest you join and type in "parents of LD kids" and see what comes up. Play around on the site...I'm sure you'll find something that "fits".

Good luck!

there is a new facebook application called Circle of Moms. you can create a group for moms of kids with issues in school. Its pretty neat, since you can have a page where you profile your kids for other moms to see too.

Hi K.,

I don't know of any networking sites that work exactly like Facebook or Linked-in (I'm not familiar with Plaxo), but you could check out CafeMom and see if there is a group that you are interested in.
Meetups and Yahoo Groups can also be good. Some groups do charge a small fee to join. You might also want to think about starting your own group through any of the above sites.
I belong to a local Mom's group through Yahoo groups and many of the moms link together through the main yahoo group page to share photos, information and links to their own websites/blogs.
All the best,
B.

Hi K.,

You can try BabyCenter.com. I met a lot of nice moms on there--always willing to give advice, etc. I am on Long Island and there was a specific group in my area. Good luck!

I have met lots of other moms on meetup.com, there are all types of groups including stay at home moms, working moms, attachment parenting and special needs to name a few. You can search groups for your topic of interest. Good luck!

I belong to Mombloggers and Hybrid Mom. They are both social networking sites especially for moms. Blogging is also another great way to meet other mothers who are going through common challenges. Yahoo also has a host of groups that you can join. For instance, I'm at home with my kids but I'm also a writer and I belong to Momwriters and WriteFromHome which are both Yahoo groups. These groups are great because you receive the threads of topics in your email. They are also an amazing reference for any question you have. I hope this helps.
