Where Do All the Legos Go?

My 4 yo is really getting into Legos, and I A. learning how expensive they are. There are none for sale on Craigslist, and very few on ebay that are better deals than what they have in the stores. My question is, where do all the Legos go when older kids are done playing with them? I'm talking sets--not a bucket of bricks. Do kids take these things to college or something? Legos have been out for years, yet there's no used ones out there. It's just weird! Do they all go into the landfill? Because if that's the case, then I don't want to buy them. It's just really, really odd...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

I got a suggestion to join the Lego Club from another Mamapedia mom. Great suggestion! It's totally free. Also Target has a sale this week on a few Lego items. Thanks everyone, for your advice and for making me laugh at some of the responses!

They end up on the floor. Mom steps on them in the middle of the night. Cusses in the dark. Then throws it away. Or dad cleans the kids rooms and anything left on the floor gets swept up and sent to file 13. At least thats how it happens in my house.

I don't think anyone actually outgrows legos they just slowly disappear. One day you realize you have a bin with nothing in it.

My parents saved all the little instruction booklets and put all the legos (yes, ALL of them) into this HUUUUGE rubbermade bin... I could fit all 3 of my kids AND my dog in that bin if I wanted to.

My brother doesn't have kids yet, but we're both fighting like hell over who gets all those legos!! I WANT THEM!

I think Lego Land has some sort of pull on them and they can travel through space (maybe time I'm not sure)...

If you find them don't send ours back, because if they're not gone I will step on them and say a curse word and have to put money in the jar!

Damn Legos!

I have been wondering the same thing! Apparently they never go on sale either! My son is obsessed with Duplo ones. My mom still has the ones we played with when we were little -- like 30 years ago! I think they just last forever and people either save them or pass them along. You can post an "item wanted" on Craigslist or Freecycle and see if anyone responds.

legos go anywhere legos fit, under floor boards, vaccuum, corners of toyboxes, inside anything... they invade lik eyou hope bugs dont... but then if you want to find some at yard sales etc they are usually nastey dusty and gross... expensive little buggers!!! we have stuck more with playmobil, not as build as you can like legos, but still come apart and have to be rebuilt.. also expensive, but my kids love them!! and also like mentioned by nina k toys r us does have good sales on occasion. just keep your eyes pealed for good sales, stock up and put away for xmas at that time... :) just dont step on them, that hurts like a &%^$*
