Where Can I Take My 2 Year Old for a Pony Ride?

My 2 year old's MDO had pony rides last week. My husband picked him up that day and forgot to ask how he did. He came home from school talking about horses and ponies and asking to ride them. He's suddenly horse and pony crazy. He even started riding on his rocking horse for the first time ever! I assumed that he got to ride the pony and had a great time. So yesterday I asked his teacher about how he did because he'd been talking about it so much and she told me that he is the only kid in the class that did not get to ride the pony :( Unfortunately, he is the type of kid that is very scared of new situations and new things until he has had a little while to warm up to the idea. The MDO obviously doesn't have the time to deal with that, so when he was crying and said he didn't want to go, they had to move on. I don't blame them one bit as I know how he can be, but now I feel awful that he didn't get to ride a pony and that he really wants to. I tried to find somewhere, but all I can find is places that cater to parties. His birthday isn't till December so that won't work for us. Does anyone know where I can take him that he can get up close and "meet" and get a ride on a pony? Thank you.

Thanks all. We'll try the Frisco Horse Park and also maybe the zoo sometime.

Hi J.,

It's a ways away but Bailey's Berry Patch will have pony rides on June 14th.

I recently tried searching for petting zoos, too, and could only find the places that cater to parties aslo.

I took my daughter to Barnyard Buddies for a pony ride about a year ago. I can't seem to find their website now though. Also, Frisco Horse park has pony rides.

The Dallas Zoo has a great pony ride area as well as barn with ponies and various other animals (including mini donkeys). The pony riding is only during set hours during the day though to allow some resting on the ponies' part.
