Where Can I Help Get a Friend Fitted for a Good Bra?
A friend of mine is big-chested and has always been insecure about it (clothes have never fit quite right). I've heard of places that have someone who can "fit" you for a bra, and I've also heard that the right bra can do wonders for someone's shape! So my question is - where are some places I can take my friend where someone can help her find the right bra for her? Also, she doesn't have a *ton* of money to spend on the right bra, so getting something really expensive isn't an option. Any suggestions? Somewhere close to the Palo Alto/Menlo Park area would be ideal :)

I just went to Victoria's Secret in Cupertino and got refitted for a bra. Macy's also does this.

well, Nordstrom's for one does it and do a very good job. I have been fitted there several times - Stanford SHopping Center. In Palo Alto, I would think that Gitti's Lingerie does it.

Pamela,
I completely understand your friends insecurities.. I had the worst time finding a bra, I have spent so much money on bra's and always felt so uncomfortable with all bra's. I finally broke down and went to Nordstrom to get fitted. and man it made my life so much more comfortable... Being big chested I just thought I needed a bra to cover me, but Nordstrom fitters explained to me that the bone in the middle needs to be against your chest to be proper fit.
So I did spend $56 on a bra, but it fits and I never have to feel uncomfortable or insecure.. So it might be worth purchasing a bra that works rather than buying a bunch that dont fit.
Good luck to your friend

I don't know where your friend lives, but Washington Hospital, in Fremont, has a shop called Bras for Body and Soul. They fit you to a bra and it is amazing the difference a well-fitting bra can make. It can re-shape you, and your clothes will take on a new life. Yes, they do cost a bit more, but you really do get what you pay for. (It's probably less expensive than buying bra after bra, then having a drawer full of bras that don't fit.)
Have her be completely frank about what she wants in a bra. Does she only want support? Does she want a bit of compression/reduction? Breasts moved upward or toward her arms?
Have her call her local hospital if she doesn't want to try Nordstrom's. Most standard department stores don't have / don't make bras in the larger sizes. Even Motherhood Maternity only goes up to an E cup.
Good Luck,
K.
