ok, my DS has a few baby issues we are working on, now our specialists has informed me we need to start using Neocate Infant formula. For those of you who are SAH you know money can be really tight and when I found out this formula was $40.00 a can I almost peed in my pants!! Does anyone have any ideas where I can get it for cheaper? I looked into ebay, which does have it cheaper, but I have been outbid at the last minute enough times to really make me mad!!! Also I have received bad products on ebay before so I am a little leary of them. Any other ideas???
Write to the company and tell them what a great product they ahve but the affordability is an issue- Maybe they will reply with some free product or coupons?

See about reimbursement possiblilities. They may have a phone number or email where you can find out about help paying for the formula. Plus they may have it cheaper than anywhere else on their online order site. It may also fall under your health care spending account too (or do it when you do taxes).

We bought ours through ther WIC store.
First i would suggest seeingif you qualify for WIC. It cost up about $450 a month for dd's formula, and WIC payed for about $300 of it. Also even if you don't qualify for WIC if you find one of their stores you can get it there, but you have to have cash and the exact change. We pay $34.15 per can of it.
Also i believe they are doing $30 off a case on the neocate website :)

I just wanted to share my story with you before you start refinancing everything you own just so you can purchase baby formula. I have shared this with several people and wanted to help you as someone helped me. My son was breast fed, but at 6 months whenever I went back to work, decided we would try formulas. We tried every formula on the shelves and were beginning to purchase Nutrimagen (which was the best at that time). He would throw up his entire bottle, would just cry and cry, his stomach would be so descended that it made me physically hurt for him. The peditrician decided that he wasn't able to break down the proteins in the formulas since breast milk already has proteins broken down for them. I will tell you that your peditrican will tell you to try it, but they won't guarantee anything...I asked my cousin who is an RN and she said that the doctors don't promote the product because they don't get any "kick backs" from Nestle like they do from using and promoting the other formulas. 2 suggestions. 1. Try an organization called newborns in need. They are local and they take formula and redistribute it to families that need it. 2. Try Star Medical. They can file with your insurance company. Talk to Bill. He is very helpful his number is ###-###-####. They will ship it right to your door.
Craigslist often has people with extras that they sell cheap. I get my DD's go and grow formula for $35/case! Check it out in the baby/kids section.
You have to buy it in bulk, but it is a little cheaper.

If it is a medical need, your insurance will probably pay for it. I would call the insurance company and see what they are willing to do. I am sure they would rather pay for the formula than all those visits to specialists etc.

Can you go to WIC? If you qualify they will usually provide whatever your doctor prescribes.
Does you doctor know how much this costs? Often the docs know a product is good and don't have a clue what it costs. There may be something else you can use. Or he may know of a program for getting it.
Tell him you can't afford it!!!!

An additional option is to talk to your pediatrician and his/her nurse and ask if s/he can get samples for you. When I was a SAHM with a young baby, my doc's nurse was kind enough to set aside formula samples for me and loaded me up for each visit. Sometimes the rep for the company is willing to leave extra samples if the nurses have a good relationship with them. They usually can't supply with you a full month's worth, but every little bit helps!
Oh do I know where you are coming from! I don't know where you live but I learned about Cook's Home Health in Fort Worth. They can file it with your insurance if you can get your doctor to submit paperwork that it's the only thing she can eat. That was the best thing to ever happen to me and I had twins so I understand your pain with the price! We used a regular size can per day!
If you're in Dallas you might makes some calls to Children's Medical Center to see if they have a home health division.
We had the same problems! The only place I found that had it cheaper/free was through the WIC program. That didn't work for us, we didn't qualify for WIC. If you do, check them out. Other then that...what we did was simply pay out and tighten up in other areas.
My sister buys hers off of ebay. Peole have extra they are trying to get rid of. She has done this for both of her children and has had no problems.
