When Will I Get My Period After a C-section?
I had a c-section 7 weeks ago and bled for about 4 weeks, which I know is normal. I was wondering when I will start my regular monthly period? How long does it typically take for a woman to get back on a regular monthly schedule? thanks ladies!

Each woman and each pregnancy is different. Are you breastfeeding? I understand breastfeeding delays production of a period in some.
I had a c-section and breastfed my son, It took six months before I had a "normal" period which was fine with me.
Hope this helps & congratulations.

I had a c-section...It took me a while to get my period back. I breastfed for a little while too. I don't think its really that much different than if you had a vaginal delivery. Congratulations!

Depends on if you are breast feeding or not.

I think every woman is different and it depends if you are breast-feeding or not (I did). With my first baby (born vaginally), it took me 6 months to get my period back and an additional 2 months for it to arrive on a regular schedule. My second baby was a C-section and my period returned after 5.5 months. My second baby is now 9 months old and my periods are still irregular, although I have just stopped breastfeeding. I'm still waiting for a regular schedule. Be patient and regularity will return soon!

Hello L.,
Like the other women said if you are not breast feeding your period should resume 6-8 weeks after delivery. If your periods were irregular before this pregnancy, then it may take a little longer for your cycles to resume. However, it should come back soon. I also had a c-section and my period came back 6 weeks later. I hope this helps! Enjoy your little boy!

I breastfed both of my kids, but after the initial bleeding after birth I was back to my normal period schedule. You guys that got a year off from breastfeeding are so lucky!! :)

I didn't get my period again until I completely stopped breast feeding around 8 months. I had asked my doctor about it and she said every woman is different. I just kept carrying tampons everywhere, just in case!

How long before you get it again regularly has more to do with whether or not you're breastfeeding. With my first I had a break for 19 months, second was 17 months, and the third only 8 months. All 3 were breastfed past the second birthday (still nursing the third).

Hi L.,
No difference in the period returning from a cesarean or a vaginal birth. Are you brastfeeding? If not, it should be relatively soon (and if not by 3 months, call your OB), but if you're breastfeeding, it could be months. Women who exclusively breastfeed have been known to go for a year sometimes with no period - with my last baby, it was 9 or 10 months.
Good luck and I hope that you are enjoying your baby!

It seems to vary by person. I had 2 c-sections but breastfed for a while with each baby. First one I stopped breastfeeding/pumping at about 5 months and I think my period was back about a month later. The second baby is only 7 months and no period yet (doing minimal breastfeeding/pumping still).
