When to Use Blanket
Just wanting some input about using a blanket in the crib. My 17 month old has slept fine so far without a blanket of any type. With the winter coming on, I just don't want to think about her getting cold at night. She is a wild sleeper though, she is all over the bed. My husband suggested that we tuck in a blanket for her, but I am not sure about it. I just wanted to get some input from others. Thanks.

Tammy,
I started off by using a afghan for my son when he was a baby. It had plenty of air holes that way if he did put it on his face, he could still breathe through it. Thats what I would suggest, that way she can start to get used to having a blanket on her for the cold months, and it should still calm most fears of suffocating in her sleep. Good luck!

go to Babies 'R' Us and get a sleeper blanket. It's sleeveless and is A-lined. You just put her in a long-sleeved onesie and zip her up! :-)

if she wears pj's to bed she will be fine. you don't want to put in a blanket if she's such a wils sleeper. she can tangle it around her neck and suffocate. my daughter is wild when she sleeps also i just put warm sleeper type pj's on her and she stays warm.

My baby is 16 mos old and she has been sleeping with three blankets in her bed for months now and she is all over her crib all night. She likes them. If you don't want to put a blanket in the bed with her, just makes sure she has something on her feet, but she should be fine with a blanket in the bed with her. She's going to have to sleep with a blanket of some sort eventually.

I think starting to put a blanket into her crib now is a great idea. If you stay home.. then start by putting it in only during nap time so you can guage what she does.(for example when it goes up near her face.. does she pull it off on her own?) I did this with my son when he was about 9months or so (and he does sleep like the tazmanian devil.. he is all over the place) and soon realized that he knew the blanket was there and would pull it away on his own. It doesn't need to be a big heavy blanket. Start with just a simple recieving blanket. But its a good way to start and it would make you feel more comforatable, I think!
Hope this helps.

Hey T., you know, they do make those sleepers that you can zip her up in it, I can't remember what they are called, but it
s like a blanket, but she would zip up in it...it covers her whole body, and they even make them vest-like too. Baby-Body Blanket.
