When to Take a Pregnancy Test

After unprotected sex on August 14th, would it be reasonable to assume that I'd know if I were pregnant the first week in Septemeber? Pregnancy tests are expensive and I don't want to go out and buy one prematurely because if it's around the house, I'll use it! ;) I can't calculate according to my cycle since I'm still nursing and just resumed my period; it's light and irregular so I really can't use that as a marker.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks, and also thanks for the tip about buying cheaper pregnancy tests at the dollar store...I hadn't even thought of that. I'll hold out another few weeks unless I'm "feeling" pregnant before then.

I would wait at least month after unprotected sex to try testing unless I started to feel uncommon for me or suspect symptoms.

You can go to the Dollar Store and get a cheapie test... work just as good as the name brands.

Also, I would def wait 3 to 4 weeks after unprotected sex to get a more accurate result.

Good luck!

Most women have a 26-28 day cycle and 26 days after your encounter would be 9/8 so that should be a good time. If you ovulated around there you should show up 2 weeks after so I would take the test around 9/8 it should tell you yes or know.

The expence of a test does not matter, if the hormone HCG is present it will be a positive, this is the hormane the tests look for since the only way it is present is if you are pregnant.

Be forwarded it is vary rare to have a false positive but false negatives can happen. If you start having symptoms of pregnancy and your Milk deminishes a little call your Doctor so he can check you.

I'd wait til about Sept. 4. If you happened to be ovulating around the 14th (even if you ovulated a few days afterward it could still happen!), then you have to figure in about a week to ten days for implantation and another week or so for the hormone levels to get high enough to turn a test pink. Since you don't know your ovulation date, the longer you can hold out the better.

Also -- they have tests at the Dollar Store! I am a pregnancy test addict and I get them there all the time! It really helps me just get it off my mind for a little bit if I take one, even if I know it is too early.

Good luck!
