When to See Doctor?

My baby has been coughing and congested with yellowish mucus coming out of his nose and both his eyes. A couple of nights, he had a low grade fever (99.5-101.2) which went away with Tylenol. Last night he didn't seem very congested nor did he have a fever but he kept waking up anyway and was obviously very uncomfortable and difficult to put back to sleep. And in the daytime, he seems supertired and just out of it. Is this just a normal cold or should I see a doctor? I'm confused b/c his fevers aren't that bad and I thought you dont need to see a doctor unless the fever is high but he's just been so fussy and out of it.. any ideas what it could be? should i take him to the dr?

What can I do next?

I have always taken my daughter in when she is sick for more than 3 days or if she has a high fever that does not respond to Tylenol. So if it's been 3 days or more take him in.

My first line of defense is always the chiropractor. The immune system will be boosted and the body can fight off the infection/problem without any other help. If that doesn't help you may want to consult the doctor but most of these things can be taken care of with a little help for the body to work like it's supposed to.

You didn't say how old your little one is. If he is a newborn, any fever should be reason for you to take him to the pediatrician.

Colds are not accompanied by a fever. Fever is the bodies way of fighting infections so it more likely a virus or something along that line.

I would call your pediatricians office and let the triage nurse decide if your little one needs to be seen.
Hope he's better soon.

I would take him to see the doctor. My kids don't always run a fever with a sinus infection or even strep throat. I'm not saying at all that your son has something like this but just that when kids are sick they don't always run a high fever. Hope your LO feels better soon !

Our pediatrician has told us that if our son has cold/sinus issues and it is coming out of his eyes...bring him in. Good luck, I hope he gets to feeling better soon.

I'd definitely take him to the doctor. Our daughter has had 10-11 ear infections and is just recently 2 years old. We just got her second round of tubes, and the only way we knew she had ear infections is that she'd blow nasty green stuff out of her nose and eyes. She had no fever, no noticeable discomfort. Yet, at 10.5 months, she was in surgery for tubes.

She also had what looked like a pimple on her back that emerged this weekend. Thank God a friend made a comment about MRSA (we wouldn't have thought anything of it). She does have MRSA which his a serious staph infection because it is prone to be resistant to antibiotics. It was a small spot on her back that didn't seem to bother her.

Having found a little spot on my collarbone a few years ago and getting diagnosed with a serious disease, I tend to be a little more apt to call the pediatrician, but they're also really good about telling you when they want to see you and when they don't.

When I mentioned MRSA, they didn't blink an eye at getting her in and treated.

Good luck!

I would see the doctor , a give away sign of an infection is when the mucus has a yellow or green color , if it's clear then usually just a regular cold , he may have had a cold that ended up as a sinus infection , also the mucus in the eyes could be pink eye , so best to get it checked out.
