When Should I Call the Doctor?

Hi moms,
Here's my situation- I am on day 41 of my cycle, with no period yet. Since I had my IUD removed, my cycle has been pretty regular- around 35 days give or take a day or two. Home pregnancy tests have all come out negative at this point. I have had typical signs of pms (sore breasts, bloating, moody, etc) for about a week now, but still, no sign of my period. How long do you think I should wait before seeing the gyn about this? I read somewhere that if you haven't had a period in 6 weeks, you should call the doctor to make sure everything is ok. I will be hitting that 6 week mark in a couple of days. I am sure as soon as I make an appointment, I'll start! Thanks for your opinions.

What can I do next?

I would go ahead and make the appt. Ask if you should start could you go ahead and cancel the appt. Good Luck!

I'd give it another week or so, but do whatever feels right to you.

I would call the Dr. and make an appointment for a blood test. The doctor can also discuss your symptoms. The stress of not knowing can also make you delay as stress can either speed up a period or delay. Call the doctor. You will feel better.

Hi D.
Better to be safe and make the appt, you can always cancel if you get your period. But...if you don't get your period then you have an appt. They can draw a blood test and find out what your hormone level is to determine if you're pregnant.

Good luck, either way!

I don't want to upset you but I had this happen to me a couple of years ago. It turns out I had a missed AB. That translates to was pregnant for a short period like two weeks and had not quite miscarried yet. I would see your doctor just in case.

Well I'm not sure how an IUD works when it is removed or how it affects your period, but with me...I have PCOS. Before I had my son (my miracle) I would go anywhere from 2 months to 9 without a cycle. I even went 5 years without one. The doctor's finally told me that anything longer than 90 days should be a cause of worry. If after 6 wks and you are still not having a cycle they may not do anything, but test you for pregnancy. Once you reach the 90 day mark, I know my doctor's always gave me provera to "jump start" my cycle. They said that after 90 days we need to "expel" the lining of our uterus if we did not get pregnant. So, I would ask for a blood pregnancy test first then once you have ruled that out completely I'd talk to them about what step to take next. My doc's wouldn't even discuss provera with me unless it was 90+ days. Hope all turns out well and good luck!

Doctors will argue with me until the day i die when i tell you what i am about to tell you but IT IS TRUE. With both of my boys i was going on almost 3 months pregnant before testing positive and most of my friends alike. I no lie failed 3 blood tests and countless urine tests. My father is a lab tech who is the HEAD of the chemistry dept and he also let me know the handling of rodents will also cause you to have false negatives. He also works with a woman that can go six months without a positive result. I have doctors including other obgyns other than my own argue with me son up to son down and they all have gotten myd ue dates wrong both of my boys were "early" when they were right on time because they say it is impossible to test negative for so long but trust me it isn't. If you are not pregnant there is this lovely little thing called provera which will start you right up and back down on the path to the lovely cycle. Unless your doc will agree to an ultra sound to completely prove it i dont know ifi would insist on calling one yet. I had one doc ifi had done what he wanted i would've lost my child b/c he didn't believe i was pregnant. I waited 2 months and showed up positive and came back in... gotta have a doc that will believe you and work with you if you are afraid of pregnancy.

I may be misunderstanding your question, but as a nurse, I would advise you contact your doctor. If you are able to leave a message for them to contact you that would be a good idea, otherwise, make an appt. You could be pregnant with the tests giving negative results, although, with all three of my children I tested pos within 2 weeks of conception..., and it could just be a normal side effect of your IUD removal...I've never had experience with them other than the actual removal for patients. no training on what they should expect afterward...It could be a number of things, and it may just be that the medication has taken longer to leave your system. The doctor will be the best one to make the diagnosis for you. I wish you the very best of luck and hope it is nothing serious:) (as I'm sure it's not!) Take care!
