When Did You Start Showing?

I am 7 weeks into my second pregnancy and I am feeling a little thick! I have actually been trying watch what I am eat a little more and thought I had cut back. I didn't really overindulge during the holidays just a few Christmas cookies here and there, but I don't think that can account for my waistband being so tight! I think I might be buying some new maternity clothes sooner than I thought. I don't remember expanding so soon with my first pregnancy so do you show earlier with your second?
P.S I am sitting here with my button undone and waistband tucked in so please pray that my zipper will hold!

What can I do next?

OH THANK GOODNESS I FOUND THIS THREAD!! I am 9 weeks with my second child and I knew I would start showing sooner with the second one but I certainly didn't think it would be THIS soon. I have already had to put some pants away that I know wont be getting worn for a long time & that was two weeks ago! I am so scared of gaining a ton of weight like I did with my first child. I weighed 135 prepregnancy and 210 at delivery. I had edema really bad and lost 30lbs instantly when I had my son but still that is a TON of weight! I didn't really start gaining that much until I got put on bed rest for a month. I just started freaking out when my belly started to poof out already. I haven't gained any weight at all so far so that is good.
I already went and bought maternity clothes too. I didn't do that until I was almost 5 months last time. LOL

Hi K.. Yes, you definitely start showing earlier with your second child. I didn't really start showing with my first until well into my third month, maybe even fourth. My second started showing in the second. The idea is with your first one, you still have "pre-baby" stomach walls, relatively unstretched. After that though, the stomach wall has been stretched and will start pushing out a lot faster. You won't end up bigger unless the baby is bigger or you retain more water.

Take care and congratulations!

First Congarats!!!! But I feel you. I aam 9 weeks with my second and I am huge. I cannot button or zipper any of my pre-pregnant pants and some of my closer fitting tops have started to roll up and over my belly. With my 1st pregnancy I didn't start showing until late in my 5th month. IT is just because your body has "baby memory". It knows that you are preganat and this is what it is suppose to do. Good luck.

Hi K.!
Here is an interesting little fact about pregnancy...you will usually show earlier and earlier with each pregnancy. The reason is because you have already stretched the uterus and abdominal muscles beyond their normal boundaries, so there is a little memory in these muscles.
With my first pregnancy, I didn't show that I was pregnant until I was almost 9 months (I just spread all over and got fat...the belly came later). With my second pregnancy, I started showing around month 3, but was still able to hide it at work until I quit at 6 months.
Good luck and go ahead and get the maternity clothes! I think you are going to get a lot of use out of it!

I'm by far no expert at this, but I do have three children.I actually lost weight with my first child,a boy.I was a little heavy to begin with, not really fat,but I still had my own 'baby-fat' to contend with and really didnt "show" until 6 1/2 to 7 months-I kid you not(he weighed 7lb 12oz)!!With my second, also a boy,I was actually showing by my 3rd month,I also gained a whopping 28lbs. with him(he weighed 8 even). With my third,a girl and 14 years after my boys,I went through a little weight loss also and again really didnt show until 'bout 6 - 7 months(a lot of people didnt even know/believe I was preggers)plus with her I did have a little of the middle aged spread going, but again,I really don't consider myself a 'big'girl, pretty average-I'm definitely no Pamela Anderson, but I'm no Cameron Manhiem either-kinda in between-average.By the way,my daughter weigh 6lb 1oz.Basically I think it has a lot to do with your body'style' and the way the baby lays(stretched out/curled up)and really nothing to do with the sex of the child.Hope this helps a little and by all means DO keep an eye on what you eat,'cause I know several people who've gained 60lbs-100lbs of 'baby-weight',my personal opinion is this is a lazy excuse to get fat!!!!GOOD LUCK,R.

Dear K.,
Congrads... im preganant wtih baby #2 as well ad i just got into my secnd trimester. i noticed the same as u. i felt like i was 4 months pregnant the first 2 months. but no concern. i asked my doctotr and our bodies are just adjusting alot faster to our growing babies. with our first one we never straeched out our bodies to make room but as we heal we never go back to our normal pre preganancy body. nothing ois the same. now since we had already been through this and our uterus is already streched ( no matter how long ago u were prenant) its just starting to work its majic again... dont worry.. and yes my trip to the motherhood was early as well... good luck.

I stated showing before I even knew I was pregnant with my first child and I found out at 5 1/2 wks!!! but I gained almost 75 lbs that pregnancy, and with my 2nd I didn't start showing until almost 5 months. Every pregnancy is different I wouldn't worry about size unless you've gained too much weight at your next dr appt. congrats on the new baby!!!

Hey K.,
My first baby, it was about three months that I started showing,,my second one, it was sooner! Everyone's body responds differently. I think your body just knows what to do the second time around, so it goes ahead and does it. My breasts are already bigger faster than with my first one. (this baby due in three months) While my husband is happy about it, I say let it all stay smaller for now, cause the last month is a doosey for our bodies!! LOL At any rate, we are beautiful, pregnant Mommies, no matter what shape we are in. Bye the way, I have SO MANY maternity clothes that are like brand new,,cause I was so tiny when I got preggers with my first one,,and the opposite of tiny preggo with my second one now,,so all those maternity clothes from my first pregnancy are in a tote, just waiting for someone to wear them. I can sell them to you cheep, if you want to not spend so much on maternity this time. I was selling them for 4 bux a piece and STILL have two totes full of clothes! (sold two totes worth already) My Mom was really excited about me being pregnant the first time and kept buying and buying and buying,,,so I had LOTS. will send you my home number in private message if you want to get in touch.

Just remember that no 2 pregancy are the same. I was one of those people who didn't show with baby number 1 or 2 untill I was well into the 5th month, and then with number 2 I was in the 6th month b4 I really showed. I only gained 12 lbs wth number 1 and 16 with the other. BUt my best friend gained 60 with her kids, so I think you are most likely right on track for you. GOod luck and congrats.

With my second one I started showing just at 2 months along and he was all out for everybody to see. Where as the first one eventhough she was 2 months early, I had just started to show "good" with her.

On my clothes I used large smooth paper clips and then went to small thick rubber bands to help me wear my clothes that all be my belly could fit in.

Good luck with this pregnancy.

K.,

I know how you feel. I did start showing earlier with my second child, had to get into maternity clothes a lot sooner. I felt the same way you do, I was afraid that maybe I was going to gain too much weight with the second pregnancy because I was showing so soon! But just to reassure you, even though I started showing sooner, I ended up gaining 10 pounds less than what I gained with my first. So even though you are showing sooner doesn't mean you are gaining too much weight!

Hope this helps some.

"They" say that with all your other pregnancies, you'll start showing in no time flat.

A great friend of mine says the same. She has 3 kids now and jokes that with #2 & #3 that she didn't even have time to get to her first Drs. appointment to get the "professional positive" before she was showing.

Also, I'm on the ivillage message boards (HIGHLY recommend - go to the 'Expecting Clubs' and find your due month - it's a lot of fun and information) and the BTDT Moms (been there, done that moms) were saying and posting pics that they were showing WAY earlier than many of us first timers - like around 10 weeks or so like you.

And BTW, I'm all about Old Navy's maternity pants - I hate to say 'maternity' b/c the real button top and the low-rise band in all the pants are actually really super cute and don't look like maternity pants at all! In fact, my FIL tried to give me a hard time and ask me when I was going to start wearing those awesome, flattering maternity pants w/ panel front (of course he's remembering what MIL had to wear) and I, standing there in my uber-cute Old Navy jeans and top, was like, "I am now, thank you very much".

CONGRATS, by the way!!!!

Hi K.,
I can't say from "personal" experience that you show more with other children, but I have seen the evidence. I'm pregnant with #1 right now. I have a friend who is pregnant with #3 and we are due 1 day apart. When I was 14 weeks pregnant, you could barely see that I was pregnant, but she already had the fully round tummy out in front. I was amazed at the difference between our sizes. I didn't look anywhere near as pregnant as she did at 14 weeks til I was 21-22 weeks. I'd say you are right on schedule!
