There are lots of "old wives tales" ways of telling the sex based on how you feel or look while pregnant, but there isn't really any truth to them. They have a 50/50 chance of being correct so you will know people who "almost always" get it right, but they are just guesses. Depending on the quality of your doc's ultrasound machine, they can tell as early as 15 weeks, but most docs like to wait til about 18-20 weeks. If your insurance only pays for one U.S. and they do it too early to see clearly, they don't get another chance unless you pay of pocket. So they usually do it at your 20 wk checkup.

I had my first three in the early to mid 80s, so I had to wait until their births. They were all boys, and when I got pregnant a fourth time I began dreaming of a little girl. Fortunately, I had an ultrasound so that gave me plenty of time to get used to the idea of having a fourth son.

Some women have told me that they carry boys out front while the stomach appears rounder with a girl. I know all my boys were right there out front. (Toward the end of each pregnancy I had a nice little table.)

I agree with the first poster... but you may want to ask your doctor on when they will check, mine tried at 18 weeks and was able to tell me...

I "knew" with my first from the time I got pregnant with him that he was a boy. I don't get ulrasounds unless they're necessary, so we didn't find out with him until a couple of weeks before my due date (the midwife thought she heard two heartbeats, but it ended up just being an echo). With my second, I didn't have such a strong feeling; and we didn't find out until birth.

Sometimes you can find out the baby's sex at an earlier ultrasound, but u/s done just to find out the baby's sex are not medically necessary, and u/s has not been proven to be safe, particularly multiple scans for no medical reason, so I wouldn't get one done unless medically necessary. But, typically at 20 weeks you can find out. I like to wait.

S.,
With both of my boys I found out at my 20 week ultrasound what the sex of my babies were. Make sure and drink some orange juice before to get the baby moving, so you can make sure to see and be sure. I knew my 1st was going to be a boy but my 2nd I was clueless. I don't think it matters how your carrying the baby. It depends on how you take care of yourself. Good Luck!

I had maternal instincts, just as you did, with both of mine. They too proved to be accurate. I just had a feeling the moment I found out I was pregnant. Officially, I found out with this pregnancy at 13 weeks during the NT Scan- where they measure the fluid at the back of the neck for the chance of the baby having downs. The doctor there said he could tell us with 90% accuracy. At my OB- they confirmed the first doctor was right at 18 weeks. Although a lot of OB's make women wait until they're 20 weeks. As far as how I carried both pregnancies- they've been the same and two different sexes. I can say that this one I feel a lot lower with his movements more often..but that's about it.

The 20 week ultrasound should be able to let you see the sex....as long as the baby cooperates...lol. As far as how you carry it really depends on the baby and Mom. I am carrying a little girl right now and it is the exact same as I carried my little boy. As for knowing... I had no clue. Good luck to you and your family.
