I took all my kids out when they were one or two weeks old. I just didn't allow anyone to hold or touch them until they were at least one month old. I did allow family to hold them but only in limited numbers. I also avoided sick people.

Today! As long as you feel up to it there isn't a problem. I didn't go into public (like stores) until 6 weeks, but we went on walks around the neighborhood everyday! They love it. Strap Jayson into the stroller or a baby wrap and go outside. It will do the both of you good!

Congratulations! You'll get lots of varying answers on this topic.
I asked the dr. the same thing with my first born. She said "unless you have a tunnel from the hospital to your house, the baby will go outside as soon as you leave here."
We ventured out around 1 week also and just kept a light blanket over the carrier to keep people from touching, sneezes, etc. Make sure you wash your hands before picking up the baby, wipe down carts, all that basic germ fighting stuff.

He can go outside as soon as you are ready to take him. Make sure that he is out of the sun and is wearing appropriate clothing. The younger they are the more likely they are to get sick so avoid sick people and don't let too many people touch him (strangers should never touch your baby). Personally I kept my son out of public places for the 2 months as I had a c-section and couldn't get around very well.

Just try to avoid really busy places. You know with all the flu's going on you don't want to expose the baby to that. Just wash your hands before handling him after being in public areas. But he should be fine if you take him out now. I don't know about you but a week at home was driving me crazy so I had to get out. Congrats. on your new baby boy. Take care....

Whenever you want for short periods of time, it helps prevent jaundice.

You got great answers, just wanted to mention sun in their eyes. You're really supposed to protect their eyes when they are little. So just keep his face covered. Even under a blanket in a stroller is fine.

Congratulations! :)

Your baby can go outside with you now. Be sure to keep him out of the sun so he can't get sunburned, away from anyone sick, and away from obvious hazards. Otherwise, babies can go pretty much anywhere you go. (Make sure he's always buckled into his car seat when you drive! I'm sure you know that, but I just had to remind you - it's a mom thing.)

just avoid many busy places. grocery shop at off hours (like in the morning). but a simple start is small walks around the block or around a park. just keep a light blanket to shield the baby from the sun. also a good comfortable way to start is in your own yard. find a shady place lay a blanket down and enjoy the fresh air. i mean your going to have to leave the house with the baby to take him to this 2 week appointment and so on. i think if you start slowly and at home in your own yard he should be ok. with my daughter she was going to bible class at 9 days old, shopping and all kinds of things. i am a very on the go mom. just do what you feel is right for you. also just be smart dont have people come over if they feel sick, make sure they are in smoke free clothes if they smoke, have them wash their hands before handling the baby. good luck!

Congratulations! Very exciting! I asked the MD this same question (and many others Ha Ha) about 6 months ago when we had our baby. He said it was fine to start venturing outside, but like the previous poster said, just protect the baby from on lookers (AKA people who will poke your baby). Short little trips are great. We also took ours out for daily little walks at this age, just around the neighborhood and stuff. Have fun with him!

I asked my baby's pediatrician too but you know, she said to totally avoid places like grocery stores and other public places for the first 6 weeks to avoid any type of infections.

I heard of a great parent and child center in Reno that offers all kinds of free info for new parents. Their called the Family to Family Connection and their number is ###-###-####. Maybe you could check them out.

I took my daughter out to the mall at 5 days old, and my son out to the mall at 7 days old. It's fine to take him out now

I took my first daughter out in public at 2 weeks, my second about the same. However, I took them outside for some fresh air the minute we left the hospital (3 days old each time). It's great for babies to be outside. We walked every night.
When I was in public however at the grocery store, I would cover them, especially since they sleep so much. I also didn't want any germy strangers touching them. If anyone DOES try to touch, tell them to please not to, their hands may be dirty and the baby hasn't had any vaccinations. Don't ever feel bad for refusing a stranger to touch your little angel. I hear of too many people who won't say anything to "hurt" feelings. They can only admire. Congratulations!

S., I don't know what a pediatrician would say, but I took my children out immediately after they were born. I had to run errands and staying home wasn't an option. I suggest you limit contact with people and especially children, but I think your baby boy will be ok.... Congrats and good luck!!
