What's the Best Diaper Disposal System?
I recently gave away my Diaper Champ because it stunk to high heaven. I replaced it with a Diaper Genie II. It works great but the liner refills are expensive. Does anyone here have a better solution?
Thanks,
A.
So What Happened?™
Thanks everyone for your responses. I have decided to keep my Diaper Genie II for the stinky diapers and use a push pedal garbage can for wet ones.

The best one that I found was a box of scented disposable bags from the dollar store and my kitchen trash can! Don't let them pile up... just get them on out of there.

Take a disposable tupperware container (glad, rubbermaid, chinese takeout :-)) and poke a few holes in the lid. Put a few pieces of charcoal, like the kind you use in a grill. Place it in the bottom of any diaper container you use. Change it about one a month and that will help with the smell.

Hi Allison,
I had a diaper pail, but it always seemed to smell bad before it got full. I got the scented diaper disposal bags for the dollar store or from Babies R Us (I think Toys R Us carries them, too) and threw them in the regular trash. Grocery store bags would probably work, too. It gets emptied so often, it never created a problem.
Good luck!!

Hey A.,
I am a mother of two and I have found the best thing for me is to buy the pint size store brand sandwich zip locke bags. They seal so tight that once it's sealed the smell is gone. I don't even walk them out to the outside garbage can. I just throw them away in the kitchen trash which we throw out every night. I have never had a problem with it being stinky and it's much cheaper and less clutter than the diaper things.
Hope this helps, D.

The best pail in my opinion is no pail. I know it's not feasible for everyone, but it worked for me. We had the Diaper Champ with our first baby- worked great, no problems. But it is made of plastic and it did start taking on odors. We threw it out with the intention of getting another one, but never did. We just tied the diapers up in a plastic grocery bag and took it straight to the garbage outside. When you think about it, why would you want dirty and wet diapers sitting around your house, even if they are in a pail? Anyway, as I said, it's not feasible for everyone, but it was the best "system" for us.

We Use the little scented bags as well. You can buy a box of 200 for about $7.00 at toys r us. I've found that they work as long as you take out the trash within about 24 hours. After that I start to notice a little stink. Grocery bags work good too, but I find that they don't keep the stink in as well, and so often they are torn and useless.

Ever try just using those plastic grocery bags?? put the dirty diaper in the bag, with the wipes, etc, and tie a knot in it and toss it in the garbage. don't have to fool with it twice and don't have to waste your money on some 'Genie'!!!!
Good luck!

I am a Mom of 6. I have always used the plastic garbage bags from the store. You put the diaper in the bag and twist it tightly at the bottom, I then fold the bag back over the diaper and then tie it. This works great and it does not cost anything. Hopefully the explination is clear. Let me know. Have a great day. :0)
