I have not had a visit from aunty flow in about two and a half months. I have taken so many pregancy test we should have bought stock in them. I have unwanted wieght I can not lose. But I go to the gym 4 to 5 times a week for two to three hours. I walk every morning and I watch what I eat, can't say its always healthy but I know what I'm eating. I have cramps, I hurt every where, tried, I find my tone short and snap a lot. I have a family histroy of cancer, heart problems, diabeties. About four or five months after my daughters birth I had a mystery pain in my lower right side. I had my appendex taken out two months prior to this pain. I went in and was told it was nothing. I still have the pain once in a while but have learned to live with it. So can any one help?

What can I do next?

Hi K.,

So yeah I agree with a couple of the other responses. You should look into PCOS Polu Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. It sounds like a classic list of symptoms. It is no fun but it can be treated. Take care and good luck.

Hi, Kim.
I'm sorry to hear about the issues you've been having.
Have you been under a lot of stress? Sometimes stress can cause a loss of menstrual cycle...and some weight gain!
You have a young child, a full & part time job...and a husband....and you still find time to hit the gym for a couple hours during the week. Phew...that would wear on anyone.
Your body may be trying to tell you something. Also, if you're drinking carbonated beverages (even Diet Coke), that can make you retain fluid & make you edgy.

Try slowing down a little, take some vitamins, eat lots of fruit & veggies & drink LOTS of water. Water, vitamins & healthy foods are the key!

Could it be that you are having symptoms of amenorreah because of losing too much body fat? This condition can be caused from the heavy exercise and/or diabetis. Have you had your blood sugar tested? That would be my first step. If you go to an Endocrinologist they will be able to test not only that, but your thyroid and other possible causes.

Good luck to you!

Possible ovarian Cyst? I had one of those 4 months after my sone was born and had a lot of the same symptoms. If you've been calling your regular doctot I would go see my Ob/Gyn.. It was very painful and I felt like I was going to start my period for 3 months and nothing ever came, finally I wnet in and found out what it was.. It went away on it's own but i had to stop nusing my son..I would start there. If it was me.

Hope you feel better soon

Have your thyroid checked. It's a simple blood test and based on the symptoms you're having I don't see how a doctor could refuse your request. Thyroid problems can make you absolutely miserable, but once they are identified they are relatively easy to manage.

First of all this might be your thyroid. go get that checked. and I don't want to freak you out or anything but I was just watching this show on discovery network about surgeries and how sometimes they leave things in you so I'd go get an x-ray done for foreign objects just to be on the safe side.

Have you been checked for endometriosis? One thing I do know is that when we have pain and we KNOW something is not right, we KNOW IT. No second guessing, no wondering if we're "imagining" it, it's there and we want an answer about it. Please seek a second opinion. If you've never had a problem with your mentrual cycle before and you've always kept a regular cycle then it has to be something.
Doctors, even though they are educated about specific problems and usually listen to their patients, do not always have the answers and if they initially do not see anything wrong, they seldom go further, they send you home thinking you are crazy. Seek out a second opinion and do not stop until someone listens and really, I mean really thoroughly checks out your complaints. We as women do not complain over nothing. I believe they will find something if the correct tests and procedures are done. We have pain for a reason, it's our body's way of telling us that something is not right. It's how we as humans work. Although your problem will most likely end up being something totally treatable with antibiotics or even a change in birth control, etc. it still needs to be checked out. Have them check for ovarian cysts also, the pain in the right side may be something wrong with one of your ovaries and that would also make you feel crampy. As far as the mood changes, it certainly sounds like it's a problem of the "female" kind. Don't stop until this one is solved. You have only one body, take care of it; if you're not an advocate for yourself, nobody else will be. Keep on, keeping on.

Good morning K.. Try looking up or discussing Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). It's not a highly publicized disease but it could explain all of your symptoms. I was diagnosed with it over 4 years ago but believe me, it's not as bad as it sounds by reading my reply. It has to do with small cysts on your ovaries and if this is your diagnosis, could be the explanation to your pain as the cysts burst and can cause cramp like pain. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Go to your doctor and ask to be checked for your thyroid. You sound like I did when I found out I have hypothyroidism. It can cause problems with everything. Snappiness, low temper threshold, tiredness, dry skin, hair falling out, irregular periods, headaches, etc, etc. It can be annoying but if you do have a thyroid problem and once they get your medication regulated then you'll feel like a new person! You could also be depressed. I was on antidepressants for a while before they found out about my thyroid so it could be that as well.

Good luck.

You might want to think about a blood test to rule out pregnancy for sure. Sometimes, the home tests won't pick it up, even after months.

There is also PCOS, that can cause some of your symptoms. I don't know much about it, but I do know it causes weight gain, and makes it hard to loose.

Chronic pain causes one to be short , tense and on edge or as you put it you snap alot.Sounds like it could be from Stress when everything else physical is ruled out by your doctor. Try a therapeutic one hour massage weekly . Many insurance companies cover "alternative or complimentary treatments". Tell her where you have this pain. She will work on that area to relieve it. A good naturopaths office will refer you to one or have one right there in their offices. Mine keeps me sane and out of pain! Stress causes many physical symptoms and causes chronic problems. Pain is a symptom of something else going on wether it is physical or emotional stress . They both cause these symptoms.

I had problems with my Thyroid before I got pregnant with my first child. I would also miss Aunt flow and thought that I was pregnant but the test always came back negative. I was put on medication for a month and ended up pregnant and have had no problems since then. So this could be your problem. Go visit with your doctor and explain what is going on and ask if they could check your Thyroid. I hope this helps.

Any doctor that tells you your pain is nothing, is wrong. There are a lot of things that can cause abdominal pain, most of them just take time to diagnose. I finally got my endometriosis, uterine scar tissue, and PCOS diagnosed by bugging my ob/gyn EVERY time I had pain. I felt like a pest but I would rather be a healed pest than a hurting martyr. All of these things are very treatable given time and the right diagnosis. Stick to your guns and someone will listen!
Good luck and God Bless!

My main advice is to go to your gynocologist. Talking to someone who knows how that mystery of menstrual cycles work and what not. I haven't had a period for almost a year. I got tested for thyroid and other things, nothing. I had an ultrasound to check for cysts, nothing. I was diagnosed with amenorhea (i hope that's spelled right), which is not having a menstrual cycle. Finally figured out I have no lining in my uterus. So I've been put on birth control which helps keep my body regular. I was also reading up on some things and found out many women have a raised level of prolactin when they become stressed or depressed, which can cause amenorhea. Well, there ya go. Good luck! Hope you Fell better. B.

About a year ago and a half ago, i had similar things going on. i was missing my period, gaining weight for no apparent reason, i was moody and tired. I finally went to my gyno and had a pap and blood tests done. It turned out i have what is called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrone and that what was causing all those things. I would ask your doctor for blood tests and to check hormone levels. It never hurts to check especially when you are dealing with those kinds of symptoms. I dealt with my symptoms for over a year just thinking i was just tired or overworking or something. Don't wait any longer see your doctor. Take a step in finding out if you have something serious especially with your family history you described. Keep us posted!!

I do hope that you're seeing a doctor. When you said he said it was nothing was he referring only to your abdominal pain? I have some ideas about that. And I had to be persistent to find out what was wrong. Sometimes it takes several visits for the doctor to figure it out. One reason is he needs to know that the pain continues.

Here is a list of possible causes for abdominal pain. I've had all of them at various times. There are no doubt others, too.

1)endometriosis 2)cysts 3)scar tissue from surgery. 4) irritable bowel syndrome It took exploratory surgery to find the endometriosis after years of going to the dr. They didn't know much about it back then. An ultrasound found the cysts. But I did have to go back to the dr and reinforce that this pain was serious and ongoing. Scar tissue is something that you just have to accept after the dr has ruled out other causes.

I had some of the same symptoms that you describe but not all. The suggestions about seeing specialists is good. Be persistent and keep seeing a dr. I'd start with an internist.

No wonder that you are tired when you have a four year old and work a full time and a part time job and have pain too. Pain is very tiring. Your body works to defend against it. And you walk and go to the gym. I could never do all of that. My heart is with you.

I too dieted and exercised without successful weight loss for many years, and as others have suggested, it turned out it was PCOS. Metformin and a craptastic low-carb diet helped, but it's not a realistic diet to continue so I'm putting weight back on.

I also have extremely irregular periods due to PCOS. I've never had the pain you describe so that might be a particularly bad cyst, as others have suggested.

Talk to your doc about PCOS and if they don't know enough about it, have them refer you to someone who does.

I am not a professional, but i'd bet it's PCOS. I had the same symptoms and for years ....had pains in the lower right, sometimes left. A lot of times when the pain is at its worst and we FINALLY go in to have it checked, its a cyst that has burst and they don't pick anything up on ultrasound. I felt like I was crazy for years and eventually named my pain my "nothing". "My nothing hurts". The inability to lose weight, the loss of periods, the pain. The stress alone with going through all of the pg tests and the frustration of not knowing would be enough to make any woman a little "short" or "snappy"....however, One of the symptoms of PCOS is moodiness. It's messin' with MANY of your hormone levels. I would suggest going to your OBGYN and having them test your hormones...insilin, testostrone, glucose.....tell her what your symptoms have been and she/he should set you up for labs. You'll have to fast for about 14 hours (yuck) but you should have some answers after that. There IS medication to help with the symptoms. Good luck! :)

After reading some of the other responses, I wanted to add that the dietician that I met with was WONDERFUL and the suggestions she gave me for changing some of how I ate actually let me eat MORE and tastier food than I had been,... since I was trying so hard to "eat right" to loose weight. What she had me eating was not low carb, but good carb. All of the suggestions she made were reasonable and realistic, even long term! Hope this helps!
