Whats IBS?

I know what it is but what are the symptoms? I have had this pain like labor pains up by my liver for years. I can be fine then wake up and my bed be soaked from sweating from being in so much pain. One time the pain was so bad in the middle of the night that I crawled to the kitchen got a glass so if I passed out from the pain the noise would wake my husband up and he could get me help. I have had a liver biopsy , my gaul blader remover, 7 upper GIs and 1 colonoscopy and still the only answer is yep you still have Hpylori (which I have been on 4 rounds of antibiotics and still not gone) Dr's are clueless they have no idea. The last Dr I went to said well Im not sure so we will put you on meds for IBS. I know thats not it. The pain is sooooo bad like pouring alcohol on an open cut and nothing I eat or drink seems to matter,. the pain will come on about 2 times a month and last for about 30 min. Help please any ideas?

Hpylori is a stomach virus I guess you can say and can turn to cancer if untreated but I have teasted poss. everytime and 1 round of antibiotics should have gotten rid of it. Itwont cause this pain. Sometimes if I pull the skin away from my stomach the pain lessens but never the less I would rather go through labor again. The only thing I can do is grunt because it hurts to bad to cry and roll on my couch drintched in sweat.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you moms so much. I will be looking and doing some more searching. I have been to the ER they even did a CT andfound NOTHING. I have had 7 endoscopys and I have no cramping or diareha or anything like that and the pain is up at the top by my ribs and liver. Thanks again. I am going to look into the glutin thing.

It sounds like your pain is related to H. pylori, and not to IBS. IBS is always combined with diarrhea and/or constipation, or both. I read that H. pylori has recently become more drug resistant, and that doctors now use a triple or quadruple therapy to try to get rid of it. H. pylori can cause damage, such as ulcers or stomach cancer if they can't get rid of it, as it causes excess acid in the stomach. Take some Zantac, and go back to your doctor until it is gone. Good luck!

So sorry you're experiencing this pain. A family friend had mystery symptoms such as yours and discovered later that there was something left inside them after a previous surgery. I know it's an extremely, extremely remote possibility, but have you been x-rayed for the presence of a surgical instrument, packing material, dissolving sutures that didn't dissolve, etc.? My only other suggestion would be starting with a new GI doctor. Doesn't sound like you're getting the answers you need from your current doc. Good luck and hope you solve the mystery and get feeling better soon.

I agree that you should go to the ER next time it happens. Let them examine you while you're having the pain. It will be difficult for you (climbing into the car, allowing MD's to palpate your abdomen while you're in pain) but it might be easier for them to make a diagnosis if they see you when you're symptoms are present.

I too have IBS. Now I know symptoms can range in severity but mine are "rolling" cramping sensation in my low abdomen. The cramps can get really severe if I am constipated. Once I am able to clear the constipation (usually with several bouts of diarhea) then they go away. I will get flushed and sweaty but yours sounds much different. I agree with the other posters that you should head to the ER while having the pain and then can get real time exam when in this type of pain.

Here's some info on IBS ~

I have it, along with fibromyalgia. It's no fun and the two worst symptoms I experience are the alternating diarrhea and constipation.

My sister has diverticulitis, which is also an auto-immune disorder like fibromyalgia, and experiences pain much like you describe. Here's some info to check out:

I would suggest going to the ER the next time you experience the pain, as sometimes things are more obvious when they're happening, (this is how my sister's diverticulitis was diagnosed) and asking to see a gastroenterologist, a physician who specializes in treating the digestive system.

God bless.
