What Undies Do You Wear??

I saw a response on here that women should wear "hose" with a dress... and got to thinking about all the stuff my mom had when I was young, camisoles, slips, teddy's, garters & stockings, girdles, corset type bras... I have none of these things for day to day wear, and havent worn a slip since my teens... I have bras and panties, (nursing bras and cotton full on knickers for comfort!) but I kind of feel out of the loop. Im not a teen, and could probably do well with some better supported undies, more flattering, maybe full on pantyhose will make my legs look nice and raise up my butt LOL... So Imwondering, what you wear and what it does for you. Anything you'd recommend or call an "essential" that Im not considering? I looked into shapwear, but it all felt awful.

What can I do next?

I'm suddenly a girlie girl when it comes to underwear. I have all kinds of panties from boyshorts to thongs to silky stringy things to crotchless to cotton to satin. I also will put on stockings and garter belts. Thigh highs with corsets and a range of bras from strictly fashionable to totally flirty. I mix it up for hubby's delight. He gets thrilled weekly.

For myself I tend to lean towards comfort but find many of my under garments are totally cute, sexy and comfortable. The ones that aren't are usually not on long enough to matter. I try to pick colors that will work well together. So I have tons of blacks, reds, pinks, and blues. The colors I like or he likes.

I hope this helps. I just love trying on new things. It is so much fun to whip out something new or bring back something he hasn't seen in a while.

omg, the whole slip thing! My grandmother will be 90 next month & she sometimes has been known to wear 2 at one time!!! Talk about living in the past! ....& yes, we do love her dearly....

Fast forward to today: I am plus-sized. I prefer full briefs, but boy shorts are also comfy. I prefer an underwire, & because I am short-waisted ... I require a lower cut in the front.....or the danged thing sticks out of the top of my shirt. I mean, seriously, that's how short-waisted I am!! I have also found the non-stretch straps really help with larger breasts.

My evil (not) sister has always been a size 3.....even after 3 children! She likes the boy shorts, has been known to wear a wider thong.....but prefers bikini-style. She wears all different bras....& now relies on lightly-padded to compensate for the loss of breasts as she ages.

We both are in our late 40s & laugh about how our boobs are falling to our waists! TMI, but funny: her 23y.o. daughter almost hit the floor when she heard how we have to pick "them" up & plop "them" into the cups!!!....& yes, we were relentless with the details! Sometimes shock value is really soul-enriching.....especially when you can nail your adult children!

As for the pantyhose ?.....nobody in my family wears regular pantyhose anymore. For dark clothing, it's usually opaque tights.

& for the shapewear, the Queen Latifah stuff is really comfy....according to friends & family. I can't remember the brand....sorry!

It really sounds as if you're ready to explore your options....just get out there & have fun!! Even being plus-sized, I really prefer pretty or fun over plain!

Oh gosh, I must be weird - I actually own a full slip and a couple of half slips!!! Mostly I wear them in the summer under thinner or clingier material dresses.

I don't wear pantyhose with dresses but I do wear tights under my slacks in the winter when it is cold. I am small breasted so I can pretty much get away with a tank top with shelf bra under most blouses and I prefer the full torso coverage that they provide.

Panties depend on my mood and clothing - mostly garden variety bikinis, thongs under slacks (when I am not wearing tights) to prevent dreaded pantie lines, and boy cut sometimes. I used to spend a fortune on Victoria's Secret then got over it and discovered I could purchase perfectly nice underthings from less expensive stores.

I also tried some of those shape masher, I mean, shifter, under things - but they felt like I was being punished and, everything, good and bad was squished into weird places. Ugh.

I think essential undergarments depend on your likes and dislikes and what clothing you are wearing.

Fun Question.

After years of wearing those Victoria Secrets cotton grandma undies-I found Hanky Panky underwear. I'm not a thin gal, either but they are so flattering and no panty lines-HELLO. Only draw back is that they cost about 18 dollars a pair. I put them in a lingerie bag and throw them into the washing machine with regular old detergent and they last for years-no kidding-they don't start unraveling like other kinds I've bought. Go get a couple of pair-not the thong ones the regular cut.

I wear lace trim panites (so they don't squish in in weird places) or thongs. I don't own a slip, pantihose (sp?) or a camisole... I am 30 so not young but not old either lol...but I have no desire to start wearing nylons yet... I figure that even with my flaws, one day I will wish my legs looked like they do now so why not show em :)

I wear a nice push up bra from VS everyday and full brief underwear. But when I dont need/want a panty line I wear a thong. I also have comfy cotton thongs for those days I need a pick me up no one can see lol! I have the sexy stuff too for the right occassion. I have camis, and Spanx (Thanks to God for these) They work wonders, everything looks smooth, you dont feel like youre dying and sucks in about an inch all over! I really need a slip but havent bought one again. PS I dont care if your'e a 2 or a 12, Spanx make everything look better!

On a day to day basis I wear my nursing bra, a Bravado Allure. It's actually rather pretty and not a "granny bra". It actually reminds me of a nice bra I'd get at Victoria's Secret before I had kids. I wear 100% cotton bikini underwear, Hanes "comfort band" or something like that. I hate exposed elastic on underwear, it is so completely uncomfortable, and if I don't wear 100% cotton I'm prone to irritations and infections where one doesn't want them.
After that it depends on what I'm wearing. I have a couple slips I wear under skirts that are a bit to shear. I have a bunch of pretty camisols I wear under a shirt that need that extra layer under them for warmth or because they are too see through. I like thigh highs over panty hose when I do wear them but I have both. I like playful colors for my tights and only have a couple pair of body tone for things that I really have to. I splurged the money on dance tights (Capezio are the best!!) so they stand up to more wearing and look nicer on the legs. I use them for costuming a lot. They also give a little more support without being as uncomfortable as those body shapers.
I haven't worn the "sexy stuff" for ages. 3 kids and 15 years of marriage later. It's never comfortable anyway. But I don't look like a Granny either ;)
