Hey moms,

I will be taking my 2 1/2 year old daughter to the doctors but I was wondering if any of you have had to deal with insect bites? I know it sounds weird. My daughter recently was bite by a bee or wasp or hornet. I am not sure which, she was not with me at the time. Anyway this happened on Sunday and I found it this morning white where she was bit and real red around the site. There are two small dots in that area where the bite happened. What could this be? Again, I will be taking her to the doctor but would like some info from others on how they handled it. Thank you:)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone for responding to my request! I did take Hannah to the doctor and she said that it was probably a spider bite and to give her Benedryl(sp). I have done this for two days now and it seems that it is going away. Again thanks. Now I have good remedies if it should happen again.

My 2 1/2 yr old has had the exact same thing this summer and last(white where she was bit and hard and red around it) only after the initial bite she developed other itchy bite like bumps on other parts of her body. I took her to the doctor the first time this happened and he said that she was just bitten by something and having an allergic reaction to it and that it was not uncommon. I was told to give her Children's dye free Benadryl (2 teaspoon 3 times per day) until she was bump free for two days.

Hope it helps!

The two small dots make it sound like a spider bite. My son was pinched on the arm at school pretty bad by another kid but that night I found another mark on the back of his shoulder. I thought it was another pinch but two days later it had developed a large whitish pussy looking ball protruding from the skin. My son (nearly 2) indicated that it hurt and it definitely looked pretty nasty. I took him to the doctor immediately and he's the one that said it looked like a spider bite (several others who saw this said the same thing). He recommended putting a warm compress on it to draw the poison out. He said the skin wasn't infected so no need for antibiotics or creams. A couple days later, the puss ball burst on it's own and it's healed nicely.

One thing we did do was draw a line around the red area in pen so we could make sure the redness wasn't spreading.

I'd take your daughter to the doctor just to be checked out.

If you see 2 small dots, that is definately a spider bite. I deal with these on a daily basis because of living off the lake over here, so I invested in AfterBite for Kids. It soothes the sore and red and takes the itch away as well. I discovered this as I was trying to find something for my husband to take hunting for all the insects that he encounters. They have 3 versions, Afterbite, Afterbite XTRA and Afterbite for Kids. I would NOT use the other Afterbites for the kids as it has ammonia in it and kids tend to touch it even after you say, "Don't touch it." The Afterbite for Kids is a cream as opposed to a liquid too, so then they can't feel it dripping or anything... Trust me, you are going to love it, even for yourself. It's perfect for Mosquito bites too.

Dabbing Tea Tree Oil on bites take out the sting & swelling. Essential oils are anti-viral/anti-bacterial too, so they aid in healing. Buy high quality for greater therapeutic effect. This is a 100% natural first aid remedy, and can be used by anyone without worry.

Sounds as if she was bit by a spider not a flying insect Give her a little benadryl and put neosporene on the bite and have the doctor check her out soon. Where was she when she was bit and is she feeling alright otherwise.

The 2 white dots make me think it was a spider bite instead of a sting. I would definitly take her to the dr soon because you treat the two things differently. Good Luck

I agree with the other moms-looks like a spider bite, as a bee sting will usually just be raised and red. If in case it is a bee sting, inspect the area and see if there is a stinger still sitting there-remove it using the edge of a credit card or knife, as if you use a tweezer, it will pump more venom in.

Clean the area in both cases with soap and warm water. Usually in other cases (bee sting, etc) you use ice to reduce redness, but if you suspect a spider bite, apply warm compress (towel dipped in hot water)-don't squeeze or press area. Neosporin cream helps to prevent further infection-apply somewhat thick on area, and cover with a semi permeable gauze or bandaid. The pack should be changed 3-4 times a day by washing area with warm water and reapplying, or till you see doctor and get further instructions. Also, don't use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol on area. If needed an oral antihistamine (like children's benadryl-may make daughter sleepy) can be used to reduce itching, and other effects of the sting.

Tylenol or Motrin can help with the pain..

Hi! J.,

This could be a spider bite. Over the counter Benedryl cream works well on bug bites. Good luck A.
