What to Do When Pregnant and Health Insurance Doesn't Cover Maternity??

I just found out that I am pregnant and our health insurance doesn't include maternity coverage. I am not eligible for Medicaid... I was wondering what would be my options to not have to pay the entire amount for the pregnancy and the delivery? Do you know if there is any hospital or birth center that could help me?

Thanks for your help!

i don't know about hospitals but i know all birthing centers and midwives are the cheapest option i think about 5000 $ i amnot sure but you can check good luck

Congrats on your pregnancy!!! My friend just had a baby at the beginning of November and her insurance policy did not cover pregnancy. I know she talked to many doctors and told them the situation and they gave her a lower price if she paid for it up front. I think she put some on credit. The hospital did the same thing. Call around to some doctors and hospitals. Tell them your situation and maybe they can do the same thing.
Good luck!

I went through a similar situation and discovered that many hospitals have "payment plans" for people without insurance...you just have to be honest with them. I was told that I could pay an upfront balloon-type sum that would cover everything. I think it was around $2000, but it covered labor and delivery, anestesia etc. Also there is a maternity club type card that offers discounted rates specifically for pregnant women. I don't remember the name but I found it online through a search engine. Good luck.

I was in the same situation 3 years ago. I found that Doctor's Hospital in Dallas will work with you if you tell them you will be paying cash. The will tell you up front the price of a normal delivery and c-section. I think it came out to be $1600 or so for normal. They let me pay it out during my pregnancy. That was 3 years ago so it could have increased. Also, I spoke with my OB and he let me pay his fee, i think it was $2200, over the course of my pregnancy.

Funny thing is, I had insurance with my first preg. and i think it came out to be about the same in cost.

Well congrats on the new baby. They are such precious gifts. I know you live in North Plano, but I think Parkland Hospital is a county hospital that takes people regardless of insurance. They are a training hospital as well I believe, which usually means they have good doctors.

Take care.....D.
