Hi Ladies, what do yo all suggest for mold and mildew in the tub/shower area that is not too harsh strong smelling for little toddlers in the house, but will get it all off?? My kids make such a mess in the tub with washable crayons and all their other stuff. I scrub, scrub, scrub, but still tub does not seem clean enough to me. So I was hoping someone had a product they love that I could try that will get the tub white again and get rid of the mildew. Thanks!

My mom just recommended to me and is a firm believer in The Works. She swears it takes off every bit of mildew in her tub. I have to admit, I have not seen any so it must be working. I know what a pain it is, it drives me crazy! Good luck and HTH.

J.,

Like you, I don't like using chemicals in the house around my kids so I use only natural, homemade cleaners. To remove mold/mildew combine 1 part hydrogen peroxide with 2 parts water in a spray bottle, then just spray it on and then scrub off. Works great! Since my purchase of a Shaklee AirSource air purification system I have no problems with mold. I was living in an older home when I purchased it and set the machine in the bathtub and closed the door for the day. That evening I just wiped the mold off with a damp cloth. Plus it is totally safe for children which was a HUGE thing for me.

Vinegar and baking soda - non toxic, gentle, and cheap! I do occasionally have to use some diluted bleach in the corner of our shower to get rid of a spot of stubborn mildew that always comes back. I think it's just some spot than never wants to dry out. I also use Method daily shower cleaner after everyone has showered/bathed in the areas that tend to take longer to dry out.

I use Tilex poducts... yes they smell but I clean while they are napping and then close the door and turn on the fan. The soap scum and the mold and mildew work great. HTH

COMET GEL it is in a spray bottle it is a thick get. I bought it for my kitcen sinks cause it takes all stains right out and tried spraying it on the edges of the tub whrere there was mildew. I sprayed it on and left it for about 20 minutes then came back and it was white. After you have gotten it clean start putting a capful of johnsons baby shampoo in their bath water while you are running it. It will stop the rings in the tub

I have used Amway's LOC for 40 years and wouldn't be without it. It will clean anything in the house--even lipstick off the carpet-but is safe to brush your teeth with. I mix it in a spray bottle and keep one in each bathroom. Clean the tile with it and then just spray the walls frequently and soap scum won't stick and mildew won't form. I never have to do a major tub or shower clean up.

It will take some soaking and scrubbing at first. I used the old fashioned Heloise nylon net scrubber. (40 yrs ago:) )

To get rid of the mildew already there they have a product called Pursue. Or use bleach and a toothbrush. Be aware that once the mildew spore is firmly entrenched it may take awhile to keep it from growing back. You may even have to clean out old grout and chaulk and redo.

To avoid the worst of soap scum, use Zest. It is a very mild detergent bar without all the fats that are in soap. I started using it when it first came out and my children were preschool. no problems. And it leaves your skin feeling silky clean.

And of course leave the shower curtain open. If you have an exhaust fan use it to help dry the tub area.

THis is so easy, I can't believe the whole world doesn't do it. You really can be a good wife and mother and NOT spend one day a month scrubbing the shower walls!!

God bless

I use clorox. It works and when I smell it, I know I am killing germs, mildew, etc.

I just run the fan while I am using it to keep my house well ventiliated.

Try Mr. Clean's Eraser pads. They work like magic and you don't even have to scrub hard. They work for just about everything in the house that needs cleaning. Good Luck!
