So What Happened?

Thanks for all of you. I really found most of your answers so good and helpful and thanks also for those who only bother themselves just to criticize my writing style , sorry for annoying you by my run-on sentence but English is not my first language ,thanks for those who supported me or say something nice. and for all of you I join this website because I was alone and helpless new mom . I was happy when I received my first answer as if I suddenly had a friend. and this make me ask again just to feel connected . but receiving all these bad comments left me sad and embarrassed and I think It was bad idea to join a website which now I think it is not for non american . thanks again for all of you. it is better to be alone than to feel ashamed and embarrassed like that

This website is a place where you can come to ask questions and find answers from other moms. If someone is asking a question they are looking for help/ an answer. Can we not criticize people for their grammar etc.? We all have bad days but lets be nice

I'm sorry for not responding to the question. I feel the need to make a statement. Mamapedia is for asking for help, needing support, needing friendship and so many more things. Why bash, correct, or give negative comments. Ladies/men we need to stay a positive support system. Correcting her is not helpful, thats just not were about, or so I feel. Everyone has been so helpful with me, and I would feel just horrible and embarrassed if I received responces like this. Just my opinion....Thanks for listening!

I wouldn't laugh at you!! It's a good question...

I personally wouldn't douche as it messes with your bodies natural "flushing" system...that's what your discharge is - natural flush. if it smells bad - then you should see a doctor and find out if there is an infection or something like that. Talk to your OB/GYN about douching - in all of my years NOT ONE OB/GYN has supported douching.

In MY OPINION Feminine Powders are higher priced baby powder. Some women use them to help absorb smells from their discharge or from exercise and sex....however, if you have to use it on a daily basis to cover a bad discharge smell - again - i would STRONGLY suggest you go to a Dr to get to the bottom of it.

Although it is possible diet plays a role in your smell - curry, garlic, onions and other spices "seep" out of our pores!!!

I've never used it, but it is just powder or corn starch with deoderant. It can be used around the vaginal area or under your breasts or anywhere. I've never felt a need. I know my mother had skin problems under her breasts from moisture from sweating, so this might help absorb moisture in a case like that.

In the summer time, I sweat a lot under my breasts, and my bottom sweats too! I hate it! I have leather seats in my car, and there are times that I will get up from the car seat with a puddle in my pants that looks like I wet myself from sweat! How embarrassing and gross, right?

I have found that using basic cornstarch powder (like for babies) DOES cut down on the sweating some. And it does reduce friction between my legs when I am wearing a skirt or dress...

I think the feminine powders are basically the same thing, with a fragrance. I've never tried any, but like I said, I do use regular cornstarch in my lady areas to keep the sweat down a little...

I'm going to try deodorant spray too...

I use baby powder when i am ovulating, because I tend to smell stronger. That is because of extra dicharge/moisture. Feminine powders work the same way. I don't think you should use them on a daily basis though. A side note: I am little suprised at how many people corrected your grammer. Seriously guys you dont know whats going on while she's typing. I type without capital letter and punctuation alot if I am typing one handed or my son is trying to "help" me type.

Pheew (wipes sweat from forehead after trying to decipher)

The powder is to soak up moisture, stop chafing, and reduce stink.
There is an increased chance of ovarian cancer with use, so I use it, but put it on the outside of my panties!

I don't know what the powders are for, but i know that douches and cleaners with or without fragrance are bad news! The vagina should be cleaned only with warm water. Our bodies do the rest. Mess with the natural p.h. of the vagina and you are just asking for an infection.

Well I do not pay for any fancy powders, but down here we get pretty sweaty between the legs. And I mean running down your leg, under your breasts, down your back. and that is just walking out to the car some mornings.

So some women use it to help them stay dry. I put on panties and then spray deodorant all over my body in the summers.

We do this for brides and bridesmaid before they get dressed in bras and petticoats,.

Until you have experienced 100+ degree weather and + 60% humidity, none of that aisle will make any sense.

And Sometimes a vinegar douche is just needed. If you have not been airing out your privates enough. ie, sleeping with no underpants or pajamas at night is the best solution.

Regarding your powder question -- don't use it regularly, it's not supposed to be good for you. If you're clean down there, there's no need for it. I myself have never used it and never put any perfume down there either. Never had any problem with any smell.

For those of you who criticized B.'s writing/grammar - GET A LIFE!!! YOU ARE A BUNCH OF CLOSED-MINDED UNINTELLIGENT BRATS!

I believe this is the longest run-on sentence I've ever seen.

Now about your question. I don't use powders. I have no idea what they are for other than giving off fragrance. If you have moisture problems, use your hair dryer to dry off "those parts" after drying off from a shower. Any other issues, see your OB.

My doctor told me that many people use talc. powder if they have rolls of fat or large breasts that hang over their skin. If moisture gets trapped in there you get bacteria growing and it smells bad. If you use the powder it absorbs the moisture. I learned this bc after my c-section I had a problem where my incision took 3 months to heal. My belly hung over that area and I needed to clean it daily and keep it dry. Anyway, that is my guess for why people use powders. I have heard that if used daily you inhale the powder daily and this causes cancer in your lungs. Dr.s now do not recommend you use baby powder on your baby bc of this. Yet another thing to worry about.

have you just seen the news linking powders and ovarian cancer?

If anything, try pure cornstarch powder.

Actually doctors recommend NOTHING but soap and water--no sprays, deodorants, powders, no scents, etc in that area!

Don't use talc powders because there's a much higher risk for the "feminine" cancers. I never even used the talc powders for my daughters' diapers as it was completely unnecessary.

Don't use cornstarch either because yeast love to feast on corn and you'll be far more likely to get yeast infections. And again, don't use cornstarch baby powders in diapers for babies either for the same reason.

But adults probably use the feminine powders for the same reason that they're put into baby diapers. To absorb moisture. And please, for the love of Nevaeh, could you turn on spell check and grammar check?

Talcum powder has been linked to ovarian cancer. I've never found powders, douches or feminine deodorant sprays necessary and have never used them. Plain old cleanliness works just fine. Powders actually trap moisture and hold it next to the skin. It's normal for females of all ages to have discharge and it doesn't need to be treated with a bunch of products.
