What Should I Do for Diaper Rash?

if it turned out NOT to be yeast, then try Calendula cream, it's natural. Also, this may sound odd, but don't use soaps that have sodium laurel sulfate (foaming agent) in them, they are VERY VERY drying (many shampoos , soaps and body wash) including children's have this agent in it.... not only does it dry out skin and hair, but can be an irritant (even to adults) Additionally, don't discount the drying effects of CHLORINE in the water..... I know some will laugh about this, but it's true. While I DEF believe you need to keep your baby clean, I think some OVER do it. with all the cream, lotions and Bubble products, those coupled with chlorine, makes for dry baby skin... so when bathing your child, do it quickly so as NOT to let them soak in the water for too too long..

I'd get it looked at if you're worried. But on top of that-- make sure baby is dry between diaper changes, let him air out for a few (5-10) minutes before you throw another diaper on and the same after the bath. Both yeast infections and diaper rash are caused/made worse by wet skin.
Also- just another reason to get it looked at-my eldest son suffers from eczema, always has. It gets very leathery, red and sometimes bumpy as well and it's definately worse in the winter. No amount of diaper cream will help eczema.

Both of my daughters get awful rashes, I've tried everything but what seems to work the best for my girls is something called "Boudreaux's Butt Paste", I know the name sounds awful but this is magic in a tube. I've tried Desitin, Triple paste, Balmex, corn starch. . you name it, I've tried it. This was what worked for me. I do agree w/ the other moms, if you can stand the mess going diaper free will work wonders, and the pampers baby dry are the BEST diapers. However, my youngest is all over the place so we use the cruisers.

Diaper rashes usually go away within a few days with the application of diaper rash creams. Because this hasn't gone away, there is a high probability that this may be an external yeast infection. If this is the case, diaper rash ointments and creams will not heal it. His doctor needs to give you an anti-fungal cream. If left untreated, yeast infections can crack and bleed.

Congratulations on your baby boy! I would highly recommend Triple Paste for diaper rash. It worked wonders on my daughter. You only have to use a little bit to get the job done. Also, I'm a big fan of Pampers Baby Dry diapers. She hasn't had a rash since we started using them when she was 2 months old. Good luck!

I always washed my kids with Cetaphil - very gentle soap. And I'd use Aquaphor on their girlies. That always took care of diaper rash and also made them feel better.

I also get triple paste ( by summers laboratories) at Target. Kinda pricey at $7.50/2 oz but it works like a charm in one application! When my son does not have a rash I use Balmex every change for some extra protection. Also, if you can, an hour with no diaper on works wonders on a rash.

It sounds like what my son had and I had to bring him to the Dr. It ended up being a yeast infection.
But the one thing you said about bumpy and feels leathery sound more like Ecezma and my son recently got that.
I finally think I got that under control.
I use Cetaphil lotion and wash.
I also was told to use 1 % Hydrocortisone. Worked wonders. As soon as I see a little redness on my son's neck area or creases in on his arms I put that and it goes away.
But since your son is only 2 months old I would ask about the Hydrocortisone before trying that. My son is 3 years old so his dr recommended that.
I have tried all types of lotion that the recommend for dry skin and have spent lots of $ on all lotions and this seems to be the only thing that worked. Cetaphil......
