What Milestones Has Your 5Week Old Hit

Just curious to know what your 5 weeker was doing?

What can I do next?

I was afraid my additional edit would get lost and you wouldn't see it in your other thread, so I'm posting it here

The response suggested you put cereal in the bottle for your 5 week old. That is dangerous advice. First of all it's a choking hazard, many people try to cut the hole larger, and by altering the nipple at all, coupled with a thicker texture milk, the AAP considers it a choking hazard. You also want your baby to get optimal nutrition right now, the AAP doesn't even recommend starting solids before 4-6 months of age. 5 weeks is entirely too young.

There, now I feel better that I got that typed out :)

carry on.

Hi KJ,

Here is a web site that may help you.

http://www.howkidsdevelop.com/developSkills.html

Take some parenting classes and join a mom's support group.

Here are some resources:

www.kidspriorityone.org or ###-###-####

Hope this helps. Good luck. D.

My baby is 10 weeks now-- at 5 wasn't doing much!
A rare little smile, where you're not sure if it was a smile or not, nursing all the time, wetting diapers and staring into space, and staying awake for slightly longer than the week before!
He liked sitting outside on the deck in the morning and looking at the trees. Otherwise, he just wanted to be held and to nurse constantly!

Nursing started to work better.

Pre-smiles - I mean PRE. She started looking really pleased to see me!

Holding her head up a bit more confidently, and less crosseyed.

Eat, sleep, cry , make all kinds of dirty diapers, not sleeping throught the night lol. They don't have many milestones at 5 weeks, real milestones come a few months from now.

At 5 weeks my son was still sort of a blob. He wasn't smiling yet and he was still waking up every two-three hours to eat. He started smiling (at 6 weeks) and started sleeping through the night between 8-10 weeks. He hit some milestones very early (sitting up on his own, rolling, self-feeding), and others late (crawling and walking) -- he's actually JUST starting to walk now at 15 months. Every kid is different. Congrats on the new baby!!

Finally not screaming all day long!! He started to interact a little at this point, he smiled for the first time.

Speaking of support groups, there's one for kids age birth to 10 weeks at GBMC Hospital on Tuesday mornings at 10am. Go to the Lactation Station at Labor & Delivery or call them for directions. I love the woman who runs it. She's been doing it for 20 years and is so fun and supportive and you'll meet other moms with kids your sons age. If I had the time I would go myself!
