My hormones seem to be changing and I keep breaking out around my mouth and chin. What are your favorite products to clear up acne or prevent it all together? I do use Origins face wash and moisturizer daily.

Hi,

I'm a potter, as in I make pottery. The best thing I've ever used is a porcelain, Sea Breeze astringent and Listerine (gold) mouthwash) combo face mask. I just mix all of the ingrediants into a creamy paste, apply and let dry before washing off. Porcelain clay is not hard to come by at any of the several ceramics supply companies in the area and the rest can be found at any drug or grocery store.

Good luck! Works for me within days.

Although a topical ointment does help, getting to the heart of it would be to balance the hormones.

I have a simple program that has helped many other moms with this same issue, including myself.

I use an Olay lotion with salicylic acid in it. It is one of their "total effects" lotions, be sure to read the label to find the right one. When I start getting a little blotchy, I use the lotion for a few nights in a row, and it clears my skin up.

Proactiv system seems to work best for me. I've used it consecutively for five years. Haven't had any breakouts in many many years. I even started my teenage son on it and his skin looks great! I believe you have to try a few things to see what works best for your skin type. Good Luck.

ProActive or the Melaleuca acne line is awesome, too. Go to www.Melaleuca to locate a rep in your area or google Proactive to find their website.

Try using baking soda, is a natural exfoliant. Just put some water on it to make it like a runny paste. Dont rub your face too much, but it def helps get the grease out and clean your pours! Best of all its natural!~~

Zap-it. I get products from a wellnes company and one product they have for acne is Zap-it. We get numerous testimonials about how it helps people's skin. One person i work with is in her early sixties and has oily skin and thus deals with acne and I know her daughter-in-law who loves it also.

I would suggest a good deep pore cleanser and a good exfoliator. Arbonne International's products are Swiss formulated and herbally and botanically based with 'state of the art' formulations. Specifically, I would recommend the NutriminC Masque as a deep pore cleanser and the RE9 Illuminating Enzyme Peel as an exfoliant. If you are having issues with breakouts you do not want to use a 'mechanical exfoliant'. The Enzyme Peel works differently. If you are interested in samples or more information, I am a consultant and would be happy to send you samples and more information. Good luck.

Hi M.!

I use Purity by Philosophy and absolutely love it. It doesn't dry out your skin like most products do. It leaves your skin soft and silky feeling. I used to get blemishes and now I rarely ever have a breakout since I've started using this product. I don't know if you use a foundation but I also changed my foundation I was using and noticed a big difference in my complexion. I highly recommend Bare Esssentials mineral foundation. You can purchase these products online at Sephora.com.

Me Too!!! I have pretty much been using the same face wash, scrub, and moisturizer but I have added a few things to my routine and my skin has started to clear up.

Along with my St. Ives facial scrub, Oil of Olay face wash and moisturizer, I have added toner and an on the spot acne treatment.

I purchased the CVS brand and it's working great. The acne treatment has helped clear up any breakouts I get WAY faster than before. I get these big huge one's lately...not sure what that's all about. The "big" name brand is Neutrogena On the Spot Acne Treatment. I purchased the CVS brand because is was in my budget. I LOVE IT!

After I wash my face I use the toner, then put the treatment on any blemishes, then moisturize. I do this at night before bed and if I have time in the morning. If I don't have time I'll usually just use toner, treatment, and moisturize. Then apply my makeup. I'll apply the treatment two to three times a day. At least twice, in the morning and at night. The directions will explain better. I have noticed a significant difference in how red they become, how large they get, and how fast they go away.

Good luck and happy skin care!

My hormones went WHACKO after having my second child. I tried everything...including prescription stuff. What worked best for me was Avon's acne line (in the grey bottles). It consists of a face lotion, toner pads and face wash. I've been using it for close to a year now. I still get a zit here and there, but overall, this has worked best for me. Best of luck!

Just a suggestion but when I get acne around my chin and mouth it is generally because I have put lotion onto my hands and sat with my hands touching my face. When I switched lotions and didn't do that as much my face cleared up. Maybe that is not your problem but thought I would throw it out there.

Hi M..
My suggestion is a new product called UNBLEMISH from Rodan and Fields dermatology. They are the dermatologist who created Proactiv Solution.

Its a little more expensive but it doesn't dry out the skin like some other products and results are 100% guaranteed. You can use it for 60 days and if you don't love how it worked you can return it (even empty containers) for a full refund.

Check it out at: http://cjphillips.myrandf.com

I've tried a lot of different products but had the most success following the Dan Kern's acne regimen. Basically, I just bought his benzoyl peroxide and followed his instructions for application. In addition, I use Dove soap and a drugstore moisturizer (he recommends one on his site if you don't want to purchase his) and a Neutrogena retinol (deep wrinkle) product at night which helps prevent wrinkles and tackles acne. Just google "Dan Kern" and the word "acne" and his site should come up.

I've been using Proactiv Solution for years and I love it. I had major t-zone breakouts. Not anymore! I still get an occasional pimple here and there, but not like before I started using Proactiv. At first Proactiv made my skin dry and flaky around my mouth and near my chin. Use a good moisturizer...it will go away. I still have the dryness problem if I use too much toner or repairing lotion. Follow the directions and just use a very little bit. Good luck!

Ilike the blue toner from Lancome. Remember that with skin care products, it takes two weeks before u see a result, at first they may cause u to break out because they are cleaning the skin and bringing things to the surface....so give it a chance to normalize your skin. if it doesn't work for you, try clinique toners.
