What Is Wrong with That?

I like the idea of half birthdays especially when the birthday falls near other events (like Christmas). I would just suggest that you make it clear whether or not gifts are expected. If the girls get gifts from friends on their real birthdays, they shouldn't expect additional gifts at the party. But if nobody gives gifts on the real birthday, then gifts would certainly be acceptable for the party!

My friend's lil sis is a christmas baby, and they always have a family celebration, plus she has a "half birthday" party in the summer and invites her friends.

There is nothing wrong with that at all. However, if it were me I think I'd want my bday celebration closer to the day. Have you checked into local park districts ect to see if there is a rooom to rent or another (affordable) venue? By the time you do a family party and then a summer one, you may spend as much as the room rental anyway. Either way, bottom line is you can't loose.

The half birthday sounds like a good idea, it makes it even more special if they don't have to share it with all of the other 'special' days in the winter. Even better if they get a small birthday and a big half one.
