Has anyone gotten or gets Gel nails? They are like acrylic, I think but supposidly do not ruin your nails. How does it work. What if I want to take them off, or not do it anymore? Will my nails be ruined like how after you take off acrylic nails. I would like to get them done so I can have nicer nails, but am nervous that I will make my already sad looking nails worse if I change my mind later.
Gel and Acrylic based nails are almost the same, both ruin your nails when done, but they look good. Gel nails look more natural than acrylic nails, they're more expensive than acrylic nails, and they don't leave your nails the same as they are without them on. The way they are taken off is different, so they aren't as weak, but your natural nails will still be weak for a while.
I have decided to get at least monthly manicures and pedicures. I can't be sure that I will be able to keep up with the gel ones. The point was for me to feel better about myself. I think I would only freak that I had no time to get my nails done every 2 weeks. Thanks for all the answers, they were all very helpful

I had gel nails instead of acrylic, and they wrecked my nails for a whole year, and they were only on for 3 weeks. It's an all or nothing deal, really, You either want to get them and maintain them, or deal with the ones you have. I don't care what anyone says, they DO wreck your nails.

Instead of gel nails you might want to try Nailtique. I bought it at Walgreens. It is a little bottle for about $9.00. My nails were awful after trying artificial nails. I've never had nice nails (I'm 50) and since using Nailtique since October, my nails are beautiful. It is a nail protein and looks like clear polish. It made my flimsy nails really strong. I can't believe the difference and wish I'd had it years ago. It's easy to use. You just put on a coat that dries really quickly every day. Good Luck
Hi, I'm in school to become a nail tech. and love it. GEL nails are better then acrylic if you get real gel nails. Not acrylic with gel overlay, that's not gel. If you get real gel nails, your going to pay alot. $55-$75 a set, that's how you know they are real. It's hard to find places that do real gel nails b/c they are so much, you need to call some of your "HIGH END." SALONS. When your ready to take them , you file them off with a "gel" file, you might want to go back to a salon to get them off. Gel nails look more natural. Good luck & don't be fooled, thinking your getting real gel, alot of people think they are getting ready gel and it's not.
i have done both also and they do ruin your nails. If u have the time for fake nails I say get regular manicures and your own nails will be looking great in no time. It feels good to have your own good looking nails..And it is possible for your nails to liik good mine were horrible and I used to bit them but I came around and now mine are great.Plus real nails need alot less maintaince...Good luck
they are almost the same as acrylic. both ruin your nails when done. but they look good. i get them done so short it it ridiculous and then i stop a few months and then i go back and on and on. it just makes you feel better to have your nails done with two small ones! nancy
