What Is the Best Car Seat on the Market?

Hi moms,
Someone hit my car this morning, but luckily the car was parked in the street and no one was in it. The insurance company will pay us to buy a brand new car seat, covered 100%. Right now we have a Britex. Is that the best on the market, or do you recommend a different brand? Thanks.
S.

Good Morning....I am a car seat technician and instructor. The best car seat is the one that fits your child and your car. Don't get caught up in brand names or how much the seat costs for it to be effective. The key principles are 5-point harness and correct installation. If you need help with correct installation, please don't hesitate to call me, I live in Sparks...###-###-####

Good morning!
Check out http://www.car-safety.org/ for tons of advice regarding car seats. There are several CPS technicians in the Forums section so you can ask questions, but chances are someone already has. Good Luck!

Go to this site. They have done tons of research and really helped me make my choice when I needed 2 car seats.

Britax is definitely one of the "top of the line" car seats out there today. I think it all depends on what you are looking for though, and what fits best in your car.

Personally, I think the best hing to do, is to do your own research. Even just google "consumer reports for car seats". That way, you can make your own conclusions and are sure you made the right choice for YOU ;)

Hi S.,
The top-rated car seats according to the Consumer Reports website are (in order):

Britax Diplomat $260
Cosco Scenera $60
Graco Comfort Sport $90
Maxi-Cosi Priori $200

We have a different Britax, and I think it's the most comfortable car seat we have. We bought three: one for my car, one for my sitter's car, and one for my husband's car. I bought the two highest rated seats at the time, which were the Britax Marathon and the Triumph Advance. The Triumph is huge, which is why it ended up in the sitter's minivan. I also bought a $64 Cosco seat from Target for my husband's truck. It's fine, but the seating is a bit firm and I don't think it's as comfortable as the Britax.

If you have a Britax, I think you should stay with that brand. One of their models usually ends up being the top-rated one on Consumer Reports.

for a convertible seat, I liked the Britax Boulevard the best (much better than the Marathon). (I did a lot of shopping and have tried 5 different kinds of convertible seats, so I have some points of comparison.)

stick with Brittax. best on market i hear.
