What Is Everyone Doing for New Year's Eve?
I am looking for a fun family activity for my hubby, me, and kids ages 9 and 4. We kind of wanted to get out of the house but want to be home by 9:00 or so to avoid the drunk drivers. Anyone have any ideas?

We're going to the Dallas Stars hockey game tonight at 7 p.m., but we're going without the kiddo -- as a date night. Hockey games are family-friendly.

Hubby and I are staying in--we didnt want to be out and leave the girls and have ourselves in the way of danger with drunk drivers. We will most likely take a little snooze and then get up and play some games (just He and I) and then do the countdown...HAPPY NEW YR!

My kids are 11,4, and 3 and I've noticed the 4 and 3 year olds are really into board games now. We play Don't Wake up Daddy, Hi-Ho Cheerio, and Spiderman Yatzee. The games are NOT too boring for my 11 year old and everyone has a great time! After the little ones go to bed, we then move on to the bigger kid board games (Life, Monopoly, Slamwich, etc.) You can't really go anywhere that is more fun than the time you can spend with your kids sitting down and interacting as a family. I can totally understand wanting to get out of the house though so maybe you can go bowling, to the movies(maybe Studio Movie Grill) or to Main Event.
Good luck and Happy New Year!!!

A couple year's ago we started hosting a kid-friendly New Year's Eve party for us and all of our friends with kids. It was kind of impromptu. We were wondering what we'd do that could include the kids, and still be safe or reasonable, just like you are. After talking to friends, they were all wondering the same thing. So, I made a couple phone calls and emailed invitations that said "For those of us who are too tired to party all night, let's get together and party all day. You're invited to a kid-friendly New Year's Eve party. It starts at 4 p.m. and ends when your kid melts down."
We provided sparkling grape juice and goldfish crackers. Everyone brought finger foods and we borrowed a small jump house for the back yard.
We all had a great time and plan to do it again. Everyone got home in time to put their kids to bed at their regular bedtimes!
Maybe it's not too late for a couple last minute calls to friends who are wondering what they'll do just like you are!
Our son just had his adenoids out so we've had to cancel this year's big party. Instead it's going to be a family game night.
