What Formula for a Colicky Baby?

One of my friend needs a recommendation for the formula she should use for her 1 month old colicky baby. Appreciate your responses.

What can I do next?

When my daughter was little, we used Alimentum when she was colicky and it seemed to work over night. But then it was real expensive and only available in the RTF cans. So then I compared labels and found that the Carnation (now its Nestle) Good Start with DHA & ARA had the same gentle ingredients and was way less expensive and in powder form. I used that right off the bat with my other two and had no problems with colick with them.

My oldest daughter also was super, super colicky. My doctor at the time said she had never seen such a colicky baby. The dr. put her on alimentum formula but that is very expensive. I too ended up putting her on Nestle (Carnation) Good Start. It didn't work AS good as the alimentum but it was cheaper and it did certainly help out alot.
Good Luck!

We used Good Start. We tried them all too.

Gentle Ease really helped my son as well as Gripewater which I got at Walgreens and Hyland Colic Tablets that are 100% all natural and they divorce under the baby's tongue. I hope this helps as well as gas drops.

Many blessings and this too shall pass.

enfamil gentleease helped my daughter

With my first son, we used the similac gentle formula (purple label) and that worked better. But I think what really saved us was Gripe Water. My holistic friend recommended it to me. I picked it up at the health food store and come to find out, it's one of the oldest tricks in the book. You just put a dropper-full in each bottle and it really helped. We liked the "Baby's Bliss" brand. Also, if the colic doesn't subside soon, your friend may want to try the soy-based formula by Similac. Some babies are actually lactose intolerant. Hope it gets better soon! I know that those first few months can be a bear!

only 1 mo old is not too late to try re-lactating; it would be tough, and not as high a chance for success as if she were nursing from the beginning, but it could be worth a try.
having said that, to help prevent food allergies for a babe so young, it's best to avoid dairy and soy proteins in formula - even small amounts can manifest an allergy in suseptible little ones (like my son). trouble is, you don't know your child is suseptible until it's too late! if i were your friend & could not nurse, i would go with neocate infant with dha & ara right off the bat. it's on the expensive side, but i got several cases for my firstborn on ebay.
the difference it made for my baby boy was worth the expense; we would have gone w/o cable, lights, new clothes, car & phone if we had to -- it's that big of a deal. knowing then what we know now, we would have joined an amish nudist colony if it meant we could have used neocate from the get-go!

Similac Sensitive worked great for us. I also nursed so at that age she mostly had breast milk. Both of my brothers used it for their kiddos also. You can usually get free samples from your pediatrician.
