My 12 month old is very sick with a cough and a cold. He coughs so much at night. Any home remedies? He sneezes and coughs during the day, but it gets worse at night. We are currently using the vaporizer. He is eating ok, but for sure not drinking enough. What are some things I can give him to make him feel better, and get the nurishment that he needs food, drinks etc? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Gets some vicks vapo rub. That helps. Popsicles are great for getting liquid in....I highly recommend them. Use saline nose spray in the nose and use a suction bulb to help clear any congestion. Stay away from dairy till he is better. It tends to create worse congestion. My daughter gets all milk taken from her diet while she is ill. Good luck!!!

I love vicks vapor rub n Johnson's baby vapor bath. When my son has a bad cold I give him cough or decongestion medicine at night, it helps him sleep so that he feels better faster. Ask your pharmacist. Make sure he gets lots of liquids, he'll probably eat a lot once he starts feeling better. I got some hylands homeopathic tables (like the teething ones) but they're called cough n sniffles, something like that, at walmart if that makes you more confortable. Honey helps soothe the throat too. Hope your little one feels better.

Another thing that helps my son also is the Pedicare Vapor plug-ins. They fill the room with menthol scent and have really helped my son when he is sick and is worse during the night.

There are many doctors saying now that dairy at all in children so young is not good, and, is a leading cause of many allergies / colds, etc.
I would definitely eliminate those as suggested below until he is better.
Me, after my first stayed sick with neverending colds, completely took out dairy, and, gave her strictly soy products until she was 3.
To make up for the Vitamin D and calcium that so many worry about, we gave her vitamins every day. They make liquid vitamins for the little ones that are not ready for the chewables or the gummies.
This is the best home remedy I can suggest, you might be suprised how quickly he gets better, assuming that he is having dairy of course!
Even now that she is 8, and, my youngest is 4, we do not have much dairy.
The extent of our dairy is fat free, organic milk for cereal (not every day), shredded cheese as occassional toppings, and, the occassional fat free yogurt. My kids probably get about a cup of dairy a week. We do take the vitamins regularly though, and, now that they are older, we get the juices with the added vitamin D and calcium, along with anything else I can get that has the added vitamin D and calcium.
If he is not on any dairy, I second the saline sprays to help clean out his passages, that works wonders! They also make lollipops that he can suck on to sooth his throat, (with your supervision of course!).
Pedialyte (they have drinks and popsicles), is great for liquids if he is not getting enough. As long as he is wetting his diapers regularly though, I would not worry about the liquids.

If you're not sure he is getting enough fluids you can try pedialyte pops. My son didn't like the pedialyte juice at all but loved the pedialyte pops, just like eating a popsicle. It will help him get the fluids and electrilytes he needs to get healthy!

Hope he feels better, if the cough doesn't get better you should contact your pediatrician!
