My Toy Story-obsessed 3 year-old son will be going as Buzz Lightyear. The costume was a gift from his "fairy godmother" (her preference for title). I wish I could make costumes, but am not that talented. In past years I have bought costumes on sale after Halloween in a bigger size for the next year. I've never spent more than about $10, but now that my son is old enough to have an opinion on what he wears, I may not be able to get away with that.

My 6 year old sone is dressing up as Schnuffel bunny (you'll have to look it up if you don't know what it is). Every year I make the costume. I get to use some of my project runway skills and he gets to give me advice about missed details. He now likes to use the term "artistic license" to explain why he did not pick up his toys or finish his homework. I keep trying to remember to be careful with what I "teach" him. Anyway, he chose to be this because he thinks it is just as cute as he is.

My 3 year old girl LOOOOOVES pirates, so she's a pirate this year and my 9 year old is the grim reaper. I'm not so thrilled about this one, but Grandma bought it for her, so I said, "ok, whatever. Try not to give your sister nightmares." : /

My son is dressing up as Jack and the Beanstalk, and I made his costume.

To date, he hasn't expressed any strong opinions on what he'd like to be... we've always kind of talked it in the months before, and tossed around ideas... so I saw a picture of a super-cute Jack in the Beanstalk costume, and he loved it. He recently saw the newer J in the B movie, and has been going around the house saying "Fe Fi Fo Fum, I smell the blood of an Englishm'o'n" - LOL

My 4 year old is Batman -his choice -and his 2 year old brother is Robin (my choice). He just turned 2 and has no preference! It was very important for my oldest to be Batman this year! He loves super heroes and debated a bit between Batman, Spiderman and Iron Man, but the hooded cape won out. I thought a little Robin would be a cute accompaniment. I don't make most costumes. I'm not crafty and I don't have time! If it was something I could kind of assemble -sure -but not the Batman outfit.

My toddler is a cat (leotard, tights, tail, ears and face paint) and my 7 month old is a gold fish (bought the costume second hand and it's adorable...then came up with the cat idea so they could be a pair.)

My 3 year old son is going as Buzz Lightyear, because that is what he wanted to be. My almost 2 year old daughter is going as a ballerina because 1. she wears a little pink tutu EVERYWHERE! even to bed, and 2. she is such a cutie and I won't get to dress her up for much longer!

My 4 year old is going to be a flower fairy (it's a really cute costume) and my 2 year old is going to be a ladybug. Found the costumes at a thrift store for 5 bucks a peice and thought they would go together well!

The most non=scary costume I could find at Once Upon A Child (Consignment shop) in their size:-) Princess Jasmine, Incredible, and Tinky Winky-Tulletubby.

We're not big into Halloween, but I don't want me kids to feel left out. So i splurge $5 per costume and let them have fun.

My 20 m/o is going as Alice, from Alice in Wonderland. The reason why is because its a frilly dress which she likes, and nothing has to be on her head. There were all sorts of cute costumes but with an accessorie that goes on the head, she wouldn't have it. So this was simple, and its adorable. =)

My youngest is going to be a lady bug. Why...is because I made the costume for my older daughter and it finally fits her. She has been wanting to wear it for a couple years. My older daughter is going to be a pirate. Why...because I found the costume at a second hand store very inexpensively and then 'up scaled' it to make it more girlie.

My 3 year old girl is going to be a witch. I found a witch dress at a garage sale this summer and had bought a witch hat after Halloween last year. I asked her if witch was fine and she was excited. She said she is one of the witches from Magical-Do-Re-Mi (a kid show). I also made her a fleece cloak since I'm sure it will be cold.
My 6 year old boy is going to be Ash Ketchum. He's a Pokemon trainer and my son LOVES Pokemon. He will be carrying around his stuffed Pikachu with him and some pokeballs that I've crocheted for him. I made him the shirt that Ash wears and the hat he wears and just some stretchy gloves without fingers.

I try to make my kids costumes because I enjoy doing it and the kids can pretty much be anything they want to be.

Both my girls will be rabbits this year, My oldest gets to pick the costumes and so far these last two years its been matching, last year they were angels. next year when my youngest is three she will be able to pick for herself. That might mean they will match again, lol.

My 2.5yr old son is going to be Tigger. I have limited talent and time, so it is a store bought plush costume. He has a stuffed Pooh and Eore to tag along. He loves his costume and has already worn it around the house a half dozen times. He likes his 'tail' because he can chase it like our dog Tasha. He even asks Tasha to pet his tail... because he loves to pet her furry tail. Adorable, and it makes him happy.

My son is on the fence for being Mstr. Chief from Halo (already have the costume from last year), or David Tennant's The Doctor, from Doctor Who.

Because they're 2 of his heros.

My almost 4 year old, has wanted to be Hello Kitty since last Christmas, since I am not so crafty at all, my mom's cousin made her a really cute costume!!

one is going as a cook (ordered the set online that has hat, mitts, apron), and then got her a tricka treat bag (with ketchup bottle on the front) from pottery barn. she looks awesome
she's a skinny minnie but obsessed with foodnetwork shows.
the other one wanted a white dress with hallo (sl?) and white shoes, so she got an angel dress. no specific reason.

All 3 of my kids picked their own costumes this year and I made/will make both the boys' ( because they are easy, otherwise I would have bought them) but bought my daughters outfit! Boys ages 7 & 5...Girl age 2...are going as a Mummy, a Ghost and a Pretty Fairy Princess!

a cowboy. he loves anything cowboy. he loves horses cowboy hats, and guns. so we are going to be a cowboy with his stick horse, a cowboy hat a cowboy outfit we got at toys r us for $4 jeans boot and I am debating making some chaps out of felt. or old denim I have. so a cowboy we will be this year.

My oldest daughter is going as Cinderella and my youngest as Minnie Mouse. Why, because I had the dress up outfits already, garage sale shopping for a $1 or less over the summer. I don't put a lot of thought into the costumes, I just like the decent ones. My daughter is not a huge fan of Cinderella nor my other of Minnie mouse but they both like those characters and were accepting of them.

I think people who can make their costumes are awesome, I just don't have the talent or time.

My daughter (almost 4) is really into Ariel (she loves mermaids and loves being in the water herself) and the other princesses. She has said for at least 6 months that is what she wanted to be so I found a very pretty mermaid costume for her.

My 2 yo will be Tinkerbell and my 4 yo will be Videa (Tinkerbell's not-so-nice friend). She only likes Videa because she wears purple, she doesn't really understand that Videa is mean :) They look ADORABLE!!

My mom loves to sew and makes their costumes. They always choose what they want to be. Last year my older daughter was a cowboy (not a cowgirl, she was upset when people called her a cowgirl) and the youngest was a skeleton (because she had a broken arm and it fit her situation, poor baby!).

My oldest (4) has said she wants to be a ghost this yr for a couple of months, so we made her an outfit today from a pillowcase. My husband made my youngest (2) a robot outfit with some cardbaord. He likes to pretend to be a robot, so we thought it was a good costume for him. I am not creative but I am cheap, and didn't want to buy costumes, LOL! I am really pleased with the way they turned out.

My son is going as a spaceman (technically BuzzLightyear, but we don't do TV or the commercial stuff, so he doesn't know that he has a name). My daughter is going as a tiger, which is a hand-me-down from my son (son - 2.5yo, daughter - 5.5 mo).

My mom used to make my costumes, and I would love to get to the point that I can too, but with two little ones, it just didn't work out this year.

My 2-and-a-half year old daughter loves Jessie the cowgirl from Toy Story 2 so I made her a Jessie costume from a plain turtleneck shirt and some felt sewed to her jeans, plus some paint. I already had the red cowboy hat. My grandma makes the costumes for my girls (just like she did for me :) ) and this year my almost 5 year old will be TinkerBelle and my 3 year old will be a Mean Witch. Their choices. I chose what I thought looked like a simple enough pattern (turns out not, sorry grandma) that she could make in different colors - green for Tink and purple and black for the witch. Wings from the Dollar Tree and a witch hat from the dollar section at Target. TinkerBelle was chosen also because her birthday is the 17th of Nov and she wants to have a Tink party, so the costume can do double duty. They have had the cutest costumes over the years, last year they were Mary and her Little Lamb (won lots of prizes!) and they've been Hershey's Kisses and one year my oldest was a candy corn. I love getting them gussied up for halloween.

My 16 month old DS is going as a Flying Dragon :-) Last year he was a frog -cutest frog Ever!! LOL this year will be FUN cause he can walk! I got the costume from a big bag of hand-me-downs my MIL's friend gave her! A bunch of the costumes even had tags still on them. I'm really looking forward to the day he can pick out his Own costume - Interesting to see what they like so much they want to be ! I do not have a 'sewing' bone in my body.... doesnt run in my family! HAHA Trick-or-Treat !!!! have a fun night!

My 3 year old daughter is in love with Toy Story 2 specifically, and so she decided she wanted to go as Jessie the cowgirl, and her little brother by default is going as Woody. I made the little cow print vest and chaps from cow print handkercheifs I found for $0.99 each at Hobby Lobby, and handpainted the details onto a plain white and plain yellow shirt, bought two cowboy hats and spray painted one red, got them red bandanas, and asherrif star for Woody, and they are wearing jeans. Spent about $25 total, and they are SOOO cute, if I do say so myself.

Being it's always freezing on halloween, the only rule I have is that you have to be able to bundle up UNDER the costume. Otherwise, what's the point of even having a costume if you have to cover it up with a coat.

My daughter (10) is going to be a baby (who knows why) in footie pj's with a pacifier, the only thing I had to buy is the pacifier and footie pj's which we'd be buying for winter anyway.

My son (6) fell in love with Harry Potter after spending every bedtime for the last year and a half listening to my husband read all 7 books to my daughter. He'll be Harry Potter this year. I bought a black graduation robe at Goodwill that will need the hem and sleeves shortened and we bought the glasses/wand kit at menard's for $7 (The glasses and wand @ Party City were $10 a piece... same brand and everything), his candy bucket will be a mini cauldron my daughter previously used as a witch and as far as clothes go, white button down, jeans and a tie he already has.

We have always based my 3.5-year-old's costumes on his interests...his first year he loved a particular stuffed lamb toy so he was a lamb...second year he loved the book "Goodnight Gorilla" so he was a gorilla...last year he loved Thomas the Train so he went as Sir Topham Hatt (plus we had a suit from a wedding earlier that month). This year he loves Dragon Tales and will be a dragon. All store-bought, warm, zippered fleece costumes (except Sir T.H.). My daughter is 12 and she likes putting together her own costumes with thrift store things and stuff she finds at home...however this year she is going store-bought too :-)

My 7 yr old DD is way into fairies so she wanted to be a "dark fairy" this year. My 4 yr old DD wanted to be a witch (not exactly sure why, but her big sister was a witch last year so maybe that's why.) My 2.5 yr old son is going as a dinosaur, which is a costume given to me by a friend (so he didn't pick it.) I'm sure starting next year he'll start choosing his own.

I always love my son's costume ideas. He is 7 this year and he is going as a black cat (he loves being a cat all the time including eating and drinking from dishes on the floor...LOL). Last year he was a Civil War soldier because he is a big Civil War buff. In the past he has also been a flower, a clown, and a duck.

Other than the duck costume, we always make his costumes. I go to the thrift store and buy clothing that I can use or alter for said costume. Then I buy face makeup if needed. His Civil War jacket last year...we used a navy winter jacket he had outgrown slightly and glued on infantry corporal stripes cut from felt and embroidered on some other details. We modified a leather purse to be his cartridge pouch, soldered US on an old metal belt buckle, used an old cloth rice bag as his haversack. He already had a Civil War cap, but I added a detail on top to indicate which corps. I love the creative side of working to make an innovative costume so as long as he keeps coming up with ideas, I'll keep helping.
