What Are Your Favorite Flowers and WHY? JFF...

Speaking of wedding stuff (if you saw my previous post), I wanted dark purple gerbera daisies in my bouquet... but they don't COME in dark purple and they don't dye well (boo!) So I think I'm liking off white gerbera daisies with the dark center, and then dark purple lithiansus (is that even a flower? It's something like that, LOL)...

I'm not familiar with flowers. AT. ALL. So any direction here would be GREAT! I love hibiscus, but that's way too much for our little outdoor wedding. My colors are dark purple and blue.

Just wanted to know what YOUR favorite flowers are and WHY :)

What can I do next?

I love hydrangeas. (sp?) To me, hey are the most beautiful flower--fresh or dried.

I also love tulips--the promise of spring.

Don't care so much for roses. Especially red.

My wedding bouquet was black-eyed susans, daisies, mini daisies, goldenrod, and some random greenery. Now, I would still go with something along those lines. They were simple, approachable, not stuffy, and just fun. That's why I went with them... because they represented us!

I also really love calla lillies, but they were too expensive and didn't really represent "us".

Actually I love all flowers but Daffodils have been my favorite since I was a little girl. I'm not sure why. Maybe because they are one of the first flowers of spring?

When I graduated HS a kazillion years ago, a dear friend, her mom and her grandmother - hand embroidered and hand quilted a quilt for me with daffodils on it. I still treasure it today.

Gerber Daisy's are in a tie with Hydrangea's. My Grandma had a hydragea bush in here back yard when I was growing up. After my Grandma past away I took some off of her bush to put in with my flower for my wedding. It was awesome and my mom loved it. Gerber Daisy's because when I was in 7th grade I brought a dozen of them home from Calf. to my mom and they all made it alive. I was so amazed by this.

for bouquets I love hydrangea or peonies. they are full, have great color and texture. For bridal bouquet I am a traditionlist and go all white. Mixture of different flowers and textures, but all white with a dark purple ribbon accent. :)

For my table, I like tulips and other seasonal mixes. A fun way to dress up an every day event like, breakfast. LOL! I buy the pre-made bag bouquets and rearrange them into different size containers, etc.
So fun!

I love Casablanca Lilies because they smell wonderful!! Try looking at Orchids if you want purple, but they might be too exotic for the look that you are going for. Just a thought :)

Daisies are my favorite. But, when I got married, my flowers were purple, blue, and white. The florist used hydrangea.
I have also seen purple sunflowers and purple daisies which look very similar to the gerber daisies. Google them!

I would recommend going with an all-white bouquet (for the bride) and making accent pieces with your colors. For my wedding, I purchased crystals and floral wire to make accents for all the bouquets, they caught the sunlight beautifully. A friend had a garden wedding, I recommended getting little butterflies from the craft store to accent their bouquets.

You can get roses in just about any color/shade. Hydrangeas can make a beautiful filler .... it really depends on what kind of look you are going for. The first piece of the puzzle is usually what style your wedding gown is.

If cost is an issue, look into which flowers are in season the month of the wedding and see about ordering direct from grower and assembling your own bouquets. That's what I did. Feel free to PM me if you want more details.

My absolute favorites are phalaenopsis orchids -- those come in shades of purple if you are still deciding on flower colors.

For some reason Ikea sells them a lot in the spring and whenever I am there I like to get a large plant for the home, to welcome spring. There are so lovely and pure, especially the while ones.

My other favorite is the simple R.. Something about roses...so common, still so beautiful in its simplicity. And they come in in a tremendous range of colors. Even if you cannot find the right shade of purple you can always go with a complementary color with blue undertones like magenta.

Love red gerbera daisies!

My favorite is the gerbera daisy too - because of the large modern look and bright vivid colors.

My wedding bouquet was bright red gerberas, some with dark red centers or yellow centers, boston ferns instead of the usual greens and ivory/cream colored half opened roses (I beleive they were called eskimo roses?). I LOVED my bouquet.

**P.S***
For beautiful blue and purple flowers - hydrangea makes a great full bouquet too.
