What Are the Best "First Shoes" ?
My nine month old is starting to stand on his own. We know that soon he will be taking steps! What are the best shoes for him? He has very thick, wide feet. They look like little rectangles! What is the best time to introduce him to shoes? Do we even need them right away? Thanks for you input!

My son had really wide feet too! We loved the Jumping Jacks basic white shoes. They were adorable, wore well, and came in the wide sizes. We got them at Michele's in Clinton Township. Good luck!

My son has very wide feet as well....and I LOVE Stride Rite shoes for him. Very versatile, comfortable, wide, and you can find great deals online once you know his size.

I have always lived by Stride Rite shoes for first shoes. I know that now there are all kinds of new stores etc, but they get it right. They can be pricey, so if you don't want to pay those prices, at least go look at their shoes so you can get a good idea of how they should look and feel. JCPenny should have some reasonably priced, supportive shoes for baby's feet too!
Awww... these are such good times for you - enjoy!

I know they're expensive, but I try to buy my kids sketchers ... they last awhile and are difficult to destroy; and they tend to be mostly wide. Good luck!

Best shoes - no shoes. When walking in a place they need shoes - in public or outside that is another thing. Try a soft sole shoe.

My daughter wore Robeez forever...I actually took her to Stride Rite when she was a year, she had very wide chubby feet. They said she wasn't ready for shoes yet...being barefoot is actually good for them. When she is ready for shoes I would take her there, they are a little expensive but well worth it.

My little guy has the same problem, everyone says he has "flintstone feet" very wide and thick. We found the thickness makes it hard to find shoes to fit. At 6 months we started trying to stand we put him in Robeez. They are all leather, very soft and flexible and accommodate any shape foot. They come in tons of cute designs and you can usually get get deals on Ebay. He just turned 1 and still loves those shoes.
Hope this helps

No shoes are best, but when going out, a soft soled shoe like pedipeds or robeez is best. Good luck!

I loved Bobux shoes for my son. They're a soft-soled shoe... a lot like Robeez and similarly priced. You can order them on bobuxusa.com. I like them because the character on the shoe faces the child. More than that, they are VERY NICE quality. I like them better than Robeez. It appears that Bobux now has new split-soled shoes. They claim to still be very flexible and provide traction for walking. I never tried them. They weren't available when my son was a baby. Good luck!
