What Are the Best Cloth Diaper Brands?

We love our cloth diapers! There are so many choices to choose from that you really have to try some out and see what you like I think. Diapers that fit one kid well don't really fit another well sometimes. I found the reviews at www.diaperpin.com to be VERY helpful when choosing ours. That said, I think you get the best VALUE when you choose a fitted-type diaper, and perhaps a one-size diaper. I would recommend getting about 20 or so diapers per kid (so you can wash every 2 or 3 days) and 3-4 covers per kid (you can hand-wash at night or wash with the dipes). Along those lines, we have used Kissaluvs, Motherease One-Size diapers (which don't really fit my very-skinny son that well, though they do the job) and Sugarbritches fitteds.

We got most of ours USED off the internet at sites such as the Motherease Forum (you can link from www.motherease.com) and diaperswappers (www.diaperswappers.com). You can sometimes find good deals on ebay too, but I frequently find that ebay's selection is poor and prices are expensive. (but it's probably a good place to sell them!) Used fitted diapers usually sell for about 6-7$ each versus $9-11 new. Lots of places also have deals if you buy a dozen or more at once. Good luck!!

I use g-diapers and love them. They have little pants that are made of cotton and are washable. You stick a flushable liner in the plastic liner (that snaps into the cotton pants). It took a little getting used to, but so well worth it. I prepack the diapers so they are ready to use when I need them. It only takes a few minutes to set them up. I had always planned on using cloth diapers b/c of environmental reasons, but hated the idea dealing with pins. G-diapers have velcro so there is no possibility of a pin accident. i prefer wahm-made diapers these days because i like knowing i'm getting a diaper made by another mom out there and am helping her to stay home with her kids or help support her family. http://hyenacart.com is where i shop for most things diapering-related these days (also http://diaperswappers.com as mentioned for used items, as ebay no longer allows sale of used diapers or covers). our system of choice is fitteds under wool covers (knitted or crocheted) for daily wear, but i also enjoy the simplicity of tried-and-true brands like fuzzi bunz and swaddlebees pocket diapers for things like daycare and car-trips (they're pretty much daddy-proof too, which is handy).

as someone already mentioned, do not buy gerber-brand flats or prefolds from local stores as they are really more like burp cloths and nothing like the quality prefolds you can find online or a specialty diapering shop. shops like jen's (a few posts below) are great, too, because you're helping to support another mom and she's willing to work with you to help figure out the best system for your needs! that's something i could have really used 4 1/2 years ago when figuring out what to buy for our first baby, because i certainly bought a lot of things we didn't end up liking all that much at all.

I used cloth diapers on all three of my kids, and it can get very overwhelming when you have to choose diapers from pictures on the computer. The cloth diapers available in most stores are really meant for burp cloths - they typically aren't absorbent enough to use as diapers.

In any case, I run a very small cloth diapering store from my home, and I hold workshops once a month (no sales involved, just a class on cloth diapering), so that people can see and feel the diapers. We go over different cloth diapering systems like traditional cloth diapers and diaper covers, fitted diapers, pocket diapers, and all-in-one diapers. It's really a very fun class!
