Hi A.! congratulations! My daughter had terrible problems with constipation. We found pear juice in the dairy section and it worked wonderful. I think welches makes it but it doesn't seem to be available in all stores. I know that baby juices are offered in pear as well. Good luck!

It's the iron in the prenatal vitamins. This was my WORST complication of pregnancy. I did ok-not great, but ok-with drinking apple juice and eating prunes. They make high fiber granola bars now- they might help. Look for high fiber things and drink a lot of water. Sorry to hear you're going through this- it's awful.

I recently read in a reputable medical journal called Consultant (I am a medical professional) that if you drink 500-750ml of water with fresh lemon juice squeezed into it first thing in the morning every morning that will help hydrate you and get your bowels moving. This was not suggested specifically for pregnant people but you know how they are always telling us to drink tons of water when pregnant. You could also be constipated from the prenatal vits.

Well, the only thing that worked for me was milk of magnesia. I was terribly constipated, so, I really feel for you.

You can try adding a tsp. of dark Karo syrup to your drinks a few times a day. Karo syrup is found in the baking aisle and is basically a concentrated sugar/syrup mix. What it does is draw liquid into your intestines and helps food along so it's able to get through your system. It's completely safe to use and it also works for constipated babies (adding a tsp. to a bottle does wonders).

Every pregnancy is different for some. I'm on my 3rd now & they've all had their similarities, but there have also been differences with all of them as well! Foods high in fiber and WATER are key. The recommended ounces of water is higher per day for pregnant women & most people don't drink enough so as it is. I know that I really have to watch & force myself to drink enough water - &, honestly, I still probably don't get the "recommended" amount, but I'm trying! :o) Good luck!

Ask your Dr. first, but the new yogurt, Activia, is great. Plus drink plenty of water.
