Weird Problem

Ok, I thought that I would give this a try because I cannot find an answer in any of the pregnancy books that I have, and I don't want to call the doctor for something silly. So here's my problem. I am about 26 weeks pregnant and I have been having a lot of pain and a little swelling in my toes. My feet and ankles seem fine, but my toes are very sore. I have tried different shoes and even bought bigger shoes, but the pain is still there. I work in retail, so I have been standing on my feet for 7-10 hours a day. Has anyone else had this problem? Does it sound like something that I should be concerned about?

What can I do next?

It's probably pregnancy induced carpal tunnel. I'm a hairdresser, and had it in my fingers when I was pregnant. It disappears after you have the baby.

That's not unusual, your veins in your legs are having a hard time fighting both gravity and a swelling body. Try using support hose, you can get them at like CVS or a local place that sells products for diabetics. Good luck!

Hi H.,

I know it sounds minor but give your doctor a call. If it's red, swollen and warm/hot to the touch, it may be gout. It's a simple blood test to check your level of uric acid. I don't know what is safe to take while you're pregnant, but maybe they can give you some relief. Happy Thanksgiving and congrats!

Sounds like nerve pain to me. I would mention it. I agree that that is a long time to be workng on your feet. I am due in March too! congratulations!
I know it is hard not to work, but try to take more frequent breaks. Do you have nice cushy supports in whatever shoe your wearing?

Hi, I think you should mention this to your doctor. no question is silly. 7-10 hours is a long time. Take care of yourself and talk to your Doctor about anything and everything. I had a job that had me on my feet non stop when I was pregnant with my first. I got sick from the stress and had my baby 10 weeks early. He is a healthy kid now but my point is you are pregnant for only 9 months so take good care of yourself. Good luck and have a happy thanksgiving.

Dear H.,

It is not silly to tell your doctor about ANYTHING during your pregnancy! I didn't have your problem during either of my pregnancies, but if you are having pain and any swelling in your toes, you should let your doctor know. If it's nothing, you won't have to worry, and at least they'll know to look out for it for you. I had pre-eclampsia during my second pregnancy, but not my first... my OB said, "You're not supposed to get it with your SECOND pregnancy!" But obviously, there aren't any hard and fast rules. I doubt that you'll find you have this problem so don't worry, but they'll probably want to take your blood pressure. So call your doctor!

Best wishes,
Jenn

Well, this sounds a little scary to me. It could just be that you're on your feet all day, but it could also be something more. I think you should mention it to your doctor just to be safe. Good luck and congrats with your new baby.

Well I am 35 weeks today and the first thing to swell on my body has been my toes. For me it is usually worse when I am standing up. For me luckily I sit down most of the day at my job. During my last pregnancy I was pretty much swollen....toes, ankles and calfs for the last two months. Not to fun!!!!
So in answer to you....I don't find it weird but I would say try to sit as much as you can at night with your feet elevated if you have to be on them all day.
Oh and by the way when my feet were swollen last time all I could wear was a pair of sneakers for the last two months!!!

I would think what ever it is perhaps is made worse by standing on your feet for a long day. Of course run it by your dr, please post us an update and let us know how you made out. Best of luck on your new baby!!
