A good book is the Schwarzbein Principle...you may not want to follow the complete diet, but she explains why other diets DON'T WORK! it's due to hormones being out of whack (from eating too many refined foods, carbs and sugars). She is NOT an Atkins diet plan at all, but she does explain why too many carbs is bad.
You can get it out of the library...
Hope that helps!

I too have been looking to lose the last few pounds of baby weight...my baby is 4 years old now...lol...
Try not to think of it as dieting but as a lifestyle change...just working on changing the way you eat one step at a time....like drinking water at least 8 glasses a day, make sure you eat breakfast, exercise....just make changes slowly and you wills start to see how making better choices will help you to not only loose weight but make a lasting life style change. Good luck to you....

Hi R.. Some of us just don't have the pleasure of leaving the hospital looking like we did before we got pregnant. lol. I was 5'9" 130lbs before kids. 5 years and two kids later I was a whopping 250 and sadly I shrunk to 5'8". lol. So I know how you feel. I've been on numerous diets and all of them seemed to have worked. First I went on a cleansing diet (the lemonade diet) Where all I had was a drink all day long for 10 days. Dropped 15 lbs. but gained 5 back cuz I started eating again. Then from there I followed the slimfast diet and their recipes and dropped another 15lbs. Then I became stuck cuz I stopped the slimfast because of $$$ issues. Now I am having a slimfast shake every morning and a lean cuisine for lunch w/1 cup of salad and 2tbsp or fat free dressing and a lean cuisine for dinner with ONE slice of whole wheat bread with 1 tsp of marg. and 1 cup of salad and 2 tbsp or fat free dressing. In between meals if I'm hungry I eat either another salad, fat free jello or fat free yogurt. I can't drink plain water so I drink the crystal light mixes all day long. No pop at all. Now I've only been on it for a week but so far I've dropped 5 lbs. I also go on my exercise machine (gazelle) for 30 mins every day. So good luck and I hope you the best!!!

If you live on the West Side, I would recommend Live-it-well. It is a nutrition class taught by an RN/personal trainer. I actually drove from Solon to take her 6 week class at her studio in Avon about 1.5 years ago and it has changed my life. I have lost 30 lbs, am back to my high school weight and actually have less body fat! The most important thing to me is that I feel better and I am able to teach my kids how to eat better too.
You can check out her website at www.liveitwell.net

Hi R.,
I found that getting motivated was the issue for me. However, one day I just decided that I have to do better, I had to make some lifestyle changes regardless of how tired or unmotivated I was. I set a goal to lose 10 pounds and I did it. My sister-in-law gave me some exercise tapes/DVD's and I began using them everyday. Denise Austin and Leslie Sansone were good for me. Leslie Sansone has the walk-away the pounds tapes/DVD's and I use them faithfully, especially when I can't get outside. I began walking 2-4 miles about 5-6 times a week, sometimes twice a day. I do not drink soda, although I had one the other day and I did not even drink all of it. I eat right most of the time but I have found that breaking a good sweat during your workout is what counts because you burn so many calories. Overall, walking was key for me to get that good cardio workout. I use the Denise Austin DVD's when I want to work the abs and those other problem areas and to basically resculpt my entire body and I love it. I know I may sound too happy about working out but it literally makes me feel better as a person. I hope you find what works for you. I wish you the best!

Take the slow route. One thing at a time. Small goals. say I drink 7 glasses a water a day. Work on that when you conquer that move on to another. If you do it all at once you will burn out before you start. remember diet is a quick fix. Change a habit is longer lasting. If you want longer results slow and steady. If you lose it too fast and too quickly it will come back faster. Remember use weights they help overall. Start slow set goals and you will enjoy it. If you cut out all chocolate cake when you do get it you will have too much. Set a day aside for a fun day. Just remember the next day do a half hour more of something. If you hit a wall up your workout. If you walk skip ten steps. Heartrate increases and that is what you want. Lastly listen to your body know what it wants and when it wants it. Dont skip breakfast. It helps jumpstart your metabolism. Naps are good too ;)

Become a label reader! If you eliminate a few things from your diet you can see weight loss. We eat so much garbage in our lives, so much processed junk, that our bodies don't know what to do with it all and we hold on to extra weight no matter hard we try to "diet and exercise". To start, eliminate these from your diet:
1. High fructose corn syrup
2. artificial colors
3. artificial sweeteners
4. preservatives
5. palm oil/palm kernel oil
6. anything hydrogenated
It takes alot of time, as one other responder said, you really need to comb through the aisles of the supermarket to find truly healthy foods anymore. Try buying natural and/or organic products that aren't loaded with chemicals. You'll have more energy and lose weight too!
