Here another link: http://www.halls.md/chart/boys-weight-w.htm
So, average for 5 year old seems to be lbs 45, with lbs 35 as the 5 percentile and lbs55 as the 95 percentile.
Weight "average" also depends on how tall he is and ethnicity (see chart).

The average weight is not important. What is important is his weight relative to his height. The CDC has a *new* tool that will help calculate a child's BMI. It is based on their age, height and weight.

How much does your son weigh? You also have to consider their height. If they're taller, they will weigh a little more. I have twin 4 year olds (will be 5 in Sept.) One twin is 44 inches tall and weighs 59lbs. The other is 45 inches tall and weighs 39 lbs. They are both off the charts in height, and both are within normal weight. The 59lb twin is at the top of the scale and the 39lb twin is at the bottom of the scale. Both look healthy (not too big, not to thin) and eat healthy and are very active. The 59lb twin has more muscle tone than the 39lb twin. Muscle is heavier than fat and may be what makes him heavier.
