Wedding Song - Loves Park,IL

We have two daughters (I'm stepmom) that are both getting married this year. Yikes! It's an exciting time and we are very happy for them. The younger daughter (23) has asked my husband to pick out a song for a father-daughter dance at the reception. He's thinking his older daughter (26) will ask the same of him for her wedding. Where to start? I thought I'd ask all of you for any good ideas for songs. They love all kinds of music, but especially country. A little background for reference: both girls are sweet, traditional, and down to earth. Their dad has always been there for them, they are close, and are open and loving with one another. The weddings will be more on the casual side, so no waltzes, lol! Any suggestions?

My cousin's daughter got married a couple years ago. They actually created the music by splicing different songs and practiced their moves for months. It started out traditional and quickly went into hip hop. By far the best father daughter dance I have ever seen.

I went to a wedding recently and the mom and groom danced to "Bridge over Troubled Waters," I thought it was beautiful! Equally appropriate for father/daughter. I like "Little Miss Magic" if you are a Buffet fan :) Or "Goodnight my Angel" by Billy Joel, though that runs to the sad....

I would go for something that has a special meaning for the two of them. Mine was "I'll have to say I love you in a song" for one dad, because I grew up without him and we never say "I love you" to each other out loud, and "Unforgettable" with my other dad, because I wanted him to know what an impact he had in my life, even though we drifted apart after he divorced my mom.

Holly Dunn's "My Daddy's Hands"

Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman

I Loved Her First (don't know the artist)

My Little Girl by Tim McGraw

All good choices but I'm partial to Holly Dunn's myself. Plus it's more of the bride picking the song for her day whereas the others are dad picking the song for his daughter.

Then the next thing is same for both or different for each daughter. The older daughter may not have asked because maybe she has one she's already picked out for him.

I'd go with one of these:

What a Wonderful World Louis Armstrong

Cinderella Steven Curtis Chapman

Wind Beneath My Wings Bette Midler

Beautiful Dreamer Stephen C. Foster (an oldy, but nice, may be a waltz, I'm not sure)

Good luck and congrats!

Maurice Chevalier " Thank Heaven for little girls" is what my dad and I danced to. He wanted an amusing song for us, so we could dance around the tables and laugh. I told him I couldn't handle a slow song. If just ball my eyes out.

Wonderful World is one of those, but it's beautiful. " through the years" by Kenny Rogers is what my husband danced to with his mom.

Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman - the lyrics are so sweet - starts with a dad dancing with his little girl. Second verse he dances with her so she can be ready for prom. Third verse he dances with her at her wedding.
Best wishes on the weddings!

I don't know country music at all, but I would start by choosing their few favorite singers and trying to find something fitting. The song will have more meaning if it's by an artist that both your daughter and husband love.

My dad is a big Paul Simon fan and I remember listening to his music through my whole childhood. I found a song by Paul Simon called Father and Daughter and we danced to that at my wedding. The rhythm is kind of strange for dancing, but the lyrics and the singer made it just the right song for us.

My dad and I danced to "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womak, and a good friend of mine played "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion.

My sister danced to "The Greatest" by Kenny Rogers - Our dad loved Kenny Rogers, and we all played baseball/softball, so that song meant something to us.

An appropriate song is great, but a song that means something to the father and daughter is great, as well.

Sunrise Sunset is very popular - although it is in "3" which can be a waltz tempo! Check out the lyrics though.
