Google: wedding shower mad libs. We did this at a shower and it was a blast. I am not a huge game person but this was fun. I like the recipe idea, send 2 recipe cards out with each person and have them bring them back when they attend the shower, then as a gift, give them to the bride in a recipe book. The last shower I was at was awesome. They had a chocolate fountain and wine. It was such a hit! Good luck!

I like the recipe idea also - maybe to add to it, have the guests bring something to help make the recipe (ie, a cookie sheet for cookie recipes, or a rolling pin, or spatula, casserole dish, etc.) I know I received lots of neat recipes, but never had the stuff to make some of them. Or maybe have them bring a few of the non-perishable ingredients and have an old fashioned "pounding" where the bride can stock her kitchen with essentials.

I remember also attending a shower where all married women were asked to write a memo of advice for a happy marriage on a paper shaped like a wedding cake. It was a neat addition to the gifts the bride received.

Hi, K.L. I think the ideas you've already presented are great, especially the scrapbooking one, but that's because I'm a scrapper! Another idea would be to hold a spa for the bride-to-be. I run a business where I come to you and your friends and you get free facials, hand, lip and foot treatments with customized, spa-quality products, plus relaxation. Typically the hostess gets gifts and discounts, but as the hostess you could give all your freebies to the bride. Another idea would be that instead of bringing gifts to the shower each guest could purchase one of the bride's favorite products that she tried at the spa, as well as buying for themselves. It really is all about pampering and girl time, and each guest gets to be involved instead of just sitting and watching as the bride opens gifts. If you're interested or just want more info, feel free to contact me off site at ____@____.com
Thanks, and I hope whatever you choose your shower is a huge success! K.

Have the women write in a Journal marriage advice/fun things to do for or with your husband/words of encouragement/favorite scriptures in the Bible related to marriage, etc. This is fun and a great keepsake. (A close friend of mine was gifted this at her Bridal Shower, and when she needs encouragement or has a disagreement w/ her husband, she sits in her closet w/ the door closed, prays and reads her Journal. It always puts a smile on her face!)

Lots of fun suggestions- you had some great ideas of your own from the start! I wanted to throw in one other game idea (that I don't think has been recommended yet): The girl who threw my shower got a bridal magazine and a bunch of popular magazines. She cut out famous faces that most of the guests would know (cutting off the hair) and pasted them over the unknown faces on wedding gowns from the bridal magazine. The object of the game was to guess the most famous faces. It was really cute, and much more difficult than you might think!! Good luck and have fun!!

I got a recipe box like you are considering and I loved it. Maybe you can theme the party after their honeymoon location? If you are looking for unique cake ideas, I can help. You can check out my website

My mom did the recipe thing for me at one of my bridal showers. It was great ! She just had everyone write out their favorite recipe on a card or a piece of paper and put everything is a 3-ring binder. She put a piece of advice in the front and a little saying about "Wash Day" for the front of the binder. It made it really special. 16 years later and I still have that same binder with those recipes in it ! Of course - I have added to it over the years and need to replace the binder since it's coming apart :) I think it's a great idea ! I also like the idea of the scrapbook.

My older sister remembered me saying that newly-married couples should never have to go shopping for "boring things" their first year of marriage. (I don't remember saying that, but she did.) So she had everyone bring a few rolls of toilet paper and/or cleaning supplies so we didn't have to worry about it. The toilet paper lasted our entire first year of marriage!

When I walked into the shower and I saw a mountain of toilet paper, what was my reaction? "That's awesome!"

A game that I like that I've done several times is where you ask the groom questions and then the bride has to say what his answer was like the Newlywed Game. Make some easy so she doesn't feel silly for not knowing all of them, but get some tough ones to to make it interesting. For example, ask him where he was went to high school (one she probably knows the answer to), and if he was a superhero, who would he be (one she might not know). Also ask the groom things about the bride, like what is her biggest phobia? She has to answer what she thinks he said.

Another fun game is to type up famous couples mixed up in two columns. Then they have to match them, like Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, peanut butter and jelly, etc.

The writing down her responses to gifts can be HILARIOUS!

I have thrown a tea party themed shower, and I went to garage sales and flea markets and bought mix and match cups and saucers that the guests got to take home with them as their party gift along with a tea ball. I personalized the tea bag tags with the couples' names, too. The nice thing about a tea party is that it is appropriate for all ages, moms and grandmas, as well as friends of the bride. And you can make it really old school and fancy with cucumber sandwiches, or sassy and trendy with hummus and pita bread.

I love the scrapbook page idea, but make sure everyone who comes will want to participate. Some people don't like to be creative or they do, but not in what they feel to be high-pressure situation. Or if you decide to do it, maybe make the scrapbooking part optional. I went to a baby shower where they had two stations for activities - one for scrapbooking and one for decorating onesies. Maybe your second station could be where people can write down advice.

I also had a bridal shower and the host had everyone bring a recipe and I loved it. I still have them after 19 years. Have them attach it to the gift or just bring it with them to the shower. Great idea. Love the idea of the game to secretly write down words the bride is saying as she is opening presents. That's fun. If you have that kind of group you shouldn't effend anyone. Good luck. I think the scrapbook page is neat, but how many will take the time to do that. Sounds like a lot of work for the guest.

Have you heard about having a Pampered Chef Bridal Shower??? I am a consultant and we have some much fun at these parties! Basically the Bride picks out her wish list, we have the shower which we have her whip together a quick recipes, then I provide a beautifully decorated board w/ every item she wishes to have and we give everyone a chance to pick what they would like to buy for the bride and groom! It all goes rather quick also so you have plenty of time to do anything else you wish. I also provide a great invitation explaining this and it also has a recipe card attached! The best part, after all gifts are purchased, based on the totals, the bride and groom on top of their gifts, earn so much in a FREE shopping spree on top of it all! They could earn an additional $215 in Free products! I don't know of any store w/ Wedding registry that give you anything.
I would be happy to answer any questions you may have!

out of all the shower games the one I like most is splitting up in teams of 4 or 5 people and making a wedding gown out of toilet paper. It is amazing how well these creations turn out and everyone seems to enjoy it. Each group picks a person to be the model and they make the dress on the model person then the bride to be picks the one she likes the best.

I think the scrapbook idea is good and unique. The recipe idea is very common. But still appreciated by the bride I'm sure. A fun game that I've played at a couple of showers in my family is Price is Right. Buy smaller items off the bride's registry and some things she could use around the house and have everyone guess the prices. The person with the closest total amount wins. The bride gets to keep all the goodies.
I second the posters idea about a tea party. I had one for my shower and it was so much fun! It's also fairly unique in my opinion. Good luck!

I love your ideas so far those are really cute. We did a couples shower & had everyone bring something to put into the pinjata. There were all kinds of things stuffed in there from kitchen utensils to those little bedroom items. Can't wait to see what everyone posts.

Foodwise - I second the tea party idea. We did that for mine and I loved it. I also thought it would be fun to do something 'Sex in the City-ish' with funky cocktails and I always wanted to do a mashed potato bar - mashed potatoes in martini glasses and then have toppings in small bowls. You could also do a nacho bar and margaritas!

At mine, we did a "how well do you know Carla" game with 20 questions. Also, (I Love this one!) when she's opening the presents, have someone write down all the funny comments that she says "Oh how tiny, I've always wanted one of these, can't wait to use THAT!" than afterwards, stand up and tell everyone that you took notes and this is what you may hear in the bridal suite after the wedding!! (ie: in the bedroom!)

Love the scrapbook idea - I had the recipe idea at mine and loved it as well.

I would have everyone fill out an envelope with their home address (for thank you cards) so that is one thing she doesn't have to do.

We decorated tables with candy kisses and rose petals (that other bridesmaids used at their wedding) for a friend's shower.

You could play the 'dress the bride' game with toliet paper. Divide everyone into groups and then give them each a specific amount of time to dress one of the girls as a bride. The team with the most creative dress wins!

I sell Celebrating Home and have Bridal Showers often with it. We play games, everyone has a list of what the bride would like and purchases and then we shop for the brides free and 1/2 price ~ usually the Mother & Mother-in-Law have split the price of 1/2 price items. In addition there are a cookbook we have put together for our Bean Pot that the bride will receive. The bride has things she likes and everyone has a good time! I have 3 shower games that I can send you.

#1 How well does the bride know the groom. You ask the groom a list of questions and see which ones she knows. But play the game like the show StreetSmarts. The guest write down whether or not they think the bride will know the answer or not. The guest do NOT answer the question itself.

#2 How well do YOU (the shower guest) know the bride. Give everyone the list of questions and have them fill in the blanks, then read the questions aloud and have the bride answer them once everyone is finished
.
#3 Things you may NOT want to know. (Its a bit more saucy)
1. How old was the bride when she got her first kiss? _____________________________
2. How old was the bride on her first date? _____________________________________
3. At what age did she first make whoopee? ____________________________________
4. What’s her favorite time for whoopee? Morning, Noon, All night long or While asleep
5. What would she say is the groom’s best feature? _______________________________
6. What is the nickname she has given his ‘you know what’? _______________________
7. What does he wear underneath? Boxers, Briefs, Bikini, Thong or Nothing at all
8. Has she ever made whoopee in the back seat of a car? Yes, No or Only fooled around
9. Where’s the strangest place that they’ve made whoopee? ________________________
10. Which actor would she like to make whoopee? ________________________________
11. Have they ever made whoopee in either parents bed? ___________________________ (this one embarrasses her if Mom is there)
12. Does he normally sleep naked? Yes, No or Pajamas with the feet built in
13. What color lingerie would she wear to turn him on? Red, White, Black or other
14. How many times a month will the married couple make whoopee one year from now? _____
How many times TOTAL has she made whoopee? _____________________________
I can give you a list of the questions that I used for the other games
