Wedding Rings - Spin Off

Which ring to you wear first? The wedding ring or engagement ring and why?

I now wear a single band which acts as both. When I wore 2 rings, I wore the engagement ring first and then the wedding band, somewhat in sequential order, but I also heard that the wedding band locks in the engagement.

In photographing weddings I have heard a lot of reasons for doing one or the other. What do you do?

What can I do next?

I have my husbands name tattooed on my left ring finger. A ring can be removed at anytime... a tattoo is always there.

I do wear my wedding band on my left middle finger ( it doesn't fit on my right ring finger) and my engagement ring on my right ring finger ( it doesn't fit on my left middle finger). But when I wore them together I always wore my engagement ring first then my wedding ring. Mainly because my engagement ring slid off easy and I didn't want to loose it and my wedding ring held it in place.

And this is where my OCD tendencies come in. You get two bands so you can have one on either side so the rings are symmetrical! That is the way I would have to wear mine if I ever get married.

oh too funny. i was the oddball here. i lost my engagement ring years ago and haven't got around to replacing it yet, but when i had both, i wore the engagement ring first (i received it first after all) with the wedding ring 'locking' it in.
never even really thought about it!

I have always heard and seen that on your wedding day, you remove the engagement ring so the groom can slide the wedding band onto your ring finger. Then you slide the engagement ring back on...that way the wedding band (outward symbol of your commitment) is closest to your heart.

I agree with the answers below - wedding ring first, engagement ring on top of it. During the wedding ceremony, you wear your engagement ring on your right hand so that the wedding band can go on your left, then you place the engagement ring on top of that.

I don't wear either of my rings because my husband and I had ours tattooed on:)

Oops! I guess I'm in the minority. My engagement ring is on first. It's a slippery, thin band, while my wedding ring is a thick, secure one. The wedding band keeps the other ring on! After 40 years of marriage, I think it has brought me only good luck!

I wear my wedding band closest to my hand with the engagement ring on top.
I always heard this is the way you are supposed to wear them because the wedding ring is closest to your heart and the reason for the ring finger of the left hand is because it is the only one with a vein leading straight to the heart.

Wedding band goes closest to the heart. I have never heard of any other way to wear the wedding band w/ the engagement ring.
