Wedding Ring Yellow Gold, White Gold, or Other? JFF

I'm grandmother-ish. I have a yellow gold engagement ring, and an eternity band wedding band. And recently, I started putting my grandmothers wedding band on my ring finger also. I like the way it looks, plus it makes my finger look like it is dripping in diamonds. JUST KIDDING!!

I've always had a preference for yellow gold. It just matches me better...

I'm not a grandmother but I love my solid gold Rolex, gold wedding band and my solitaire is set in gold as well as my diamond stud earrings.

That is all I ever wear... watch, rings and earrings.

I inherited my gradmothers yellow gold rings and I asked my husband not to buy me rings because I prefered to wear my grandmothers.

Our orignial sets are yellow gold.

We picked up new sets in St. Thomas in January for our 10th anniversary, which will be in 2014. Those are white gold.

Yellow gold, made for us by a college friend in the 70's! I have loved all your answers. By the time I finished reading them, I thought that in twenty years time all the young brides will be avoiding white gold, because it reminds them of their grandmothers. :)

i have white gold...actually a silver ring because i have yet to loose the pregnancy weight!!! oh my fattness..
my husband has a really nice white gold ring with a gold detail rope type design in the center. its really manly and cost alot of money :O he did not realize he could have gotten something in the 50 dollar range! But he does love it and its for life.
My brother has a black ummmm iforgot what its called. but its dark charcoal colored. another friend has a nut like off a boldt. idk where he found it but it does look like a ring with lots of edges. look on pinterest for different ideas. also in the art section there are ring books...for outside of the box ideas. i really like vintage or antique rings.

I feel like a hoarder listing my rings, but I outgrew them with pregnancies and meant to have them adjusted, but we've moved so many times and want to find a reputable jeweler we trust, so we just bought more rings, on great sales, rather than adjust, as I plan on passing them along to my children anyhow....

I was in a bad accident, hit by a car, and permanently damaged my left hand: - 18K yellow gold and platinum combo
18 year anniversary - 18K rose gold band with random channel set, multi-colored diamonds. (in 2012). I gave my first gold band away to a sweet lady in Guatemala last year. She has 5 sweet children, and they lived in this little pink house in a town called Tejutala, and they could never afford a wedding band. And her son reminded me of my son, born just days apart, so I gave her my gold travel band. I loved that women's kind and happy spirit.

I prefer gold on my coloring. White gold/silver is lost on me.

Husband lost his 14K gold wedding band and we replaced it with a titanium band.

I've never cared for wearing yellow gold either, but only because it doesn't play nicely with my pale, pink/blue skin tones. And I'm something of a non-traditionalist, I guess, because I have no desire for diamonds. So I wear three delicate, rose-gold bands that have personal symbology for me. White gold (or even sterling silver, which patinas nicely) is a second choice for me. My husband wears no jewelry, so it was never an issue for him either way.

My Mother and sister are both yellow gold but that was never really my thing as I got older. I have a white gold band/set that I love and my husband has a plain white gold band as well. My mother who is 1/2 American Indian has much tanner skin than I do and her yllow gold always plays off her skin tone beautifully. My pasty white looks better with white gold/silver! Fun question.

Mine is yellow gold. I prefer white now, but I got married in the 90s.

Mine is a beatiful yellow gold set that looks like a round cut diamond flower. The band locks into it and looks like diamond leaves around the center. I didn't know that I could have had a celtic ring (white gold or silver are my type)
He had a VERY Expensive celtic knot band in white gold that he pawned for $85 and never went to get it out.

My rings are yellow gold. When we married, white gold was definitely more in style, but I didn't care about the style. Yellow gold = wedding ring to me. It's a very simple design, and when I want to wear other rings with it (whatever they're made of), they look fine together! This ring has been on my hand over forty years; by the time I'm buried, yellow gold will probably be back in fashion and maybe one of my granddaughters might want it.

My husband proposed to me with yellow gold. My rings were gorgeous and he chose a yellow gold ring for him, to match mine, of course.
After that, everything he bought me was yellow gold and he bought me LOTS of jewelry, watches, etc.

Now that I'm not married anymore, I can wear all the white gold and sterling that I want. If I get married again, I will definitely go with white gold or platinum for my rings.

I'm glad I have lots of gold jewelry because some of my wardrobe calls for it.

Next time around, if there is one, I will be a little more vocal about what I like ahead of time.

P.S. ~ My great aunt has a stunning set of rings. She's 84. It's in her will that I am to get her wedding rings when she passes away. They are yellow gold. My uncle bought them for her on one of their anniversaries. They were married for almost 60 years. She's already given me the first engagement ring he gave her. It's white gold. I'm single, but I wear it on my ring finger often because it makes me feel close to her. I was given my mother-in-law's wedding rings when she passed away and they were yellow gold. My husband wanted them back after our divorce and I gave them back to him.
He's saving them for our son. He will inherit all kinds of diamonds one day, including my wedding rings. I won't care if he changes the setting and uses the diamonds, but my marriage didn't last for life like the others. I promised to never alter the ones I inherited.

I have White Gold. I just likes the way it looks against my skin better than regular Gold.

I have a thick white gold band with a yellow gold vining flowers inlay over it. So both, the best of both worlds. And no diamond.

i think there are old-fashioned styles, but i've never equated 'grandmother' with the color of the ring.
our wedding rings are yellow gold, but i also have some nice white gold pieces the ol' man has bought me over the years. and i mix them! i've never felt compelled to obey that silly 'rule' that you can't wear white and yellow together.
this is a tangent, but just recently, when going through my deceased stepmother's things, i found my mother's wedding rings, which i thought had been buried with her over 40 years ago. such a marvelous surprise!
i lost my engagement ring a long time ago, and my husband has often urged me to find another one. i've just never seen anything i loved so much i was willing to drop $ on it. my mother's rings are very old-fashioned and not a style that makes me squee, but i'm considering having them done over into something that has both the sentimental value, and a style i love.

We have gold. His is white and yellow and mine is just white, as is my preference. I don't like how gold tones look on me. Same pattern on both.

Our original rings are yellow gold. I prefer white gold and my husband prefers yellow. He feels like yellow gold shows it is worth more. I just prefer the way white gold or silver looks. We get to our 25th in a few years and I am supposed to get an anniversary band. I told him I want white gold or silver with 5 stones, can be diamonds, cz or the kids birthstones. Reason means more than cost.

My ring from my ex was yellow gold. I always wore silver, but for whatever reason that's what we got.

the last five years we were married, I wore my grandmother's ring that was white and yellow - very antique looking with filigree.

When I got engaged this summer, I went with white gold.

Hubby has titanium. Loves opening beer bottles with it - LOL.

My engagement ring is platinum and my wedding band is white gold with diamonds. My husband's is steel (mechanical systems engineer), so that thing is insanely "new looking"!

Platinum for me, and silver for my husband.

My wedding & engagement ring are yellow gold. I became engaged right when the white gold / platinum was getting popular. I just recently got an anniversary wrap in white gold. I like the combination & now I can wear any type of jewelry.

I have one of each, my wedding/engagement ring is yellow gold and would not look good in white. And my anniversary ring is white gold and would not look as nice in yellow. I avoided platinum because gold is sturdier. My hubby's ring is white and yellow. My hubby works in emergency services and has seen the dangers of titanium, you can't cut it off in an emergency situation, so that was not an option.

Mine is platinum and his is white gold. He didn't want to spend the money on platinum for him and it's a good thing too, since he's on wedding band number 3! (The first was lost while we were making perogi a week after we got married, the second was lost when he lost weight and was swimming in the ocean the summer after we got married, and he's had the third one for almost 8 years (knock on wood!). But he jokes that his 3 white gold wedding bands still cost less than my 1 platinum one.

I have a very thin platinum band. We were poor at the time, and we said we'd get new rings on our tenth anniversary. We never bought new bands.

Hubby's band is white gold.

my original wedding ring was two toned (I did not pick it out, my husband did). For our 10 year anniversary (we've been married for 11 years), he gave me a new ring that is white gold with a blue topaz instead of a diamond. I love it!
My husbands original ring was yellow gold. It does not fit him anymore (lol, he's not 21 anymore) and the style that he has was not able to be resized. So the one I got him now is made out of wood. He's not into wearing jewlery and if he can feel it and if it's heavy on his finger, he won't wear it. The wooden ring is very light and he loves it

Mine are a combination of white gold and platinum (platinum coated white gold or something - looks platinum but I know it isn't 100%) and I have diamonds in the engagement ring and wedding band. Husband's is a combination of white and yellow gold, it's kind of striped/stacked. I don't have any yellow gold jewelry, the rest is silver or pearls. I imagine that at some point, yellow gold will come back in style and all of our silver/platinum/white gold will look old-fashioned.

Funny you said that about your grandma - my wedding set (solitaire & wrap) are platinum because that's what my grandma had and I always loved her rings!

I always wanted yellow gold (or gold gold!) because my mom had white gold, and it never seemed "right" to me. I remember asking mom as a kid why her ring wasn't gold gold.

I have a "bridal" ring, meaning it is my engagement and wedding ring. I didn't want a band--just uncomfortable. And it looks perfect by itself--why have two rings on one finger just for tradition's sake?

Our rings do not match. He has a band with Celtic knots and grape vines, and it has special meaning for him.

We both have platinum. Mine has diamonds to match my engagement ring setting. His is plain.

White gold. I don't care for yellow and platinum is more industrial for my taste. DH's is Tungston which looks like a gunmetal color. Problem with tungston is that it cannot be sized. He lost a lot of weight, so it wobbles on his finger a lot. He does not seem to mind.

My husband had his white gold wedding band from his previous marriage melted down to make his ring. When we got our set done for our handfast, money was tight and I opted for silver and am still happy with the choice. (They are art rings and have a scene of our house, the mountains, trees and other details, day for him and night for me.) The artist operates a little craft stall and her picture rings aren't very expensive, but extremely meaningful to us.

We recently had a silver 'family' ring made by the same artist, which I wear on my left hand. (Mountains, trees, three figures holding hands and walking in the starlit night.) We wear our wedding bands on our right. I love it so much, it's sweet and simple; I think I prefer picture rings for myself than something fancy. I'd be afraid I'd knock a standard diamond out of the setting with all the banging around I do anyway.

I like white, but hubby picked yellow. It's my favorite peace of jewelry, but would love white too.

I have no idea what his was before it broke, but it was some cheap metal!

My engagement ring/wedding band are platinum. My husbands is white gold.

I just have a yellow gold wedding band. I don't like yellow gold, but it was all we could afford 10 years ago. :)
Maybe at our 20 year anniversary (or if we win the lotto!) I will get something fancier.

If we could have afforded something else would have gotten platinum or titanium and a thicker band.

I have platinum... And been married almost 13years. I choose platinum because it reminds me of my mothers ring which is white gold. My mom is 75 now and she said back when she got married white gold wasn't the in thing and most people were surprised she choose white gold.

I got married in 1992 with yellow gold engagement ring and wedding band. For our 10th anniversary, I decided to have my original rings dipped over to white gold. It probably cost less than $100 and they've held up beautifully. Now all the jewelry I wear is silver so everything matches.

White gold. I prefer the color to yellow gold and I feel it wears better than platinum (costs less too). When we were picking it out my Aunt had told me to stay away from platinum because it is tough to keep nice. She actually had her platinum ring "dipped" in white gold because of that issue.

I have been married for 37 years and I have yellow gold. It was what was most popular at the time in the 70's. I didn't have an engagement ring, because money was tight and I opted for a honeymoon cruise in lieu of an engagement ring. When we had to replace my husband's band last year, we got platinum because the jewelry store had the most different selections in platinum. For sentimental reasons, I think I will just keep my wedding ring.
