Wedding Invitations
Just curious, what is the norm for sending out wedding invitations? It's been 10 years since I got married and have forgotten the protocol. My brother is getting married July 11th and has not sent the invites yet. He & his fiancee are still working on their invitations.
So What Happened?™
You ladies rock! Thanks so much for the feedback! My brother and his fiancee are kickin' it into high gear getting their invites out. Ah, the joys of premarital bliss! ;0)

Yes, the invitations are late. Yes, they know this, they feel guilty.
I never sent out baby announcements, ever. I was just busy and didn't have anyone like an unemployed sister or mom to help me do that. The announcement stationery just sat there and sat there. When I had my third child, I thought about sending out a funny announcement saying "It's Triplets!"
Today, I have two graduation cards sitting on my island. Need to deal with that. I'm an ace at paying bills and managing investments and keeping the lawn mowed, but greetings and announcements and invitations are not up my alley. Sigh.
Enjoy the wedding!

I would say 5-6 weeks before the wedding. Enough time so that people can plan for it but not to much time so that it is forgotten.

We sent ours 6 weeks out. Did they send out a save the date postcard? We have had friends do that and then saw their wedding invites 4 weeks from their date.

3-4 weeks before the wedding.

It usually is 1 month before the wedding date to send the invites out. They still have time to get them ordered to get them out by the middle of next month. Good luck.

Hi L.--I think the "save the date" postcards can go out anytime after the details on venue for the ceremony and reception as well as hotel info are finalized. I believe invitations are to be received one month prior to the wedding.

Hey, I was told a month for mine. Any earlier people tend to forget, any later is short notice and many may not be able to attend. I did call the people who didn't R.S.V.P a week before to make sure of the final guest count for the reception, some people came and just forgot to send it so the call was nice. Hope this helps!

I thought you were supposed to send "save the date" cards if you could afford to, about 6 mos out. And invites go out about a month in advance.

Hi L. - 45 days for a local wedding is the norm but 30 days usually okay. They are in that window now but just encourage them with a goal date and then . . . let go. : )
I hope you all have a terrific time!
