Websites for Inexpensive Nursery Furniture.

I really need some ideas of some websites that have super inexpensive nursery furniture (I'm becoming very overwhelmed with most places prices) I have been on bed rest since 10 weeks, and unable to work, so surviving on husbands income....ADVICE PLEASE! :)

What can I do next?

Try a local consingment store, there are a lot around for kids and babies, just do a google search. You could even call ahead of time to see if they have any cribs before you visit.

Either IKEA or buy used furniture off Craigslist, you can often find really good deals there. Also, you could check out some consignment stores, some have a lot of furniture and equipment (you could call around so you don't have to drive around on a hunt).

Hello L.,

I used my old kid furniture for my daughter's nursery. The only items we purchased was a crib (very simple design Jenny Linn) that work GREAT! and a rocking chair (glider) - which if you get, make sure it has arm cushions - that was a life saver for me.

She had my OLD bedroom dresser and I used my old desk for the changing table. I had one of the changing pads screwed into the back of my desk with the straps that were already attached to the chaning pad. I was PERFECT! I had my draws for items that I needed close to me, it matched my dresser and crib and she is still using the dresser - 5 years later and my desk is now my sewing table.

My OLD trindle bed is now in her room and she loves it. I think she like to hear that I used to sleep in the bed when I was a kid.

Positively,
M.

Hi L.,

Craigslist.com is a great place to find inexpensive nursery furniture. I found a whole set in great shape for a really great price, that I've now used through two boys.

If you're looking for new only, oddly Burlington Coat Factory has a baby area with some good deals.

Good luck!

Start checking your local craigslist. You may need to have your husband pick the items up, and in most cases you would need to pay cash...but if you have time, you can probably find a nice set for far less than store prices. Always do some research to make sure there hasn't been a recall on a particular piece of furniture.

Target.com often offers free shipping on nursery furniture, but their prices are not "super inexpensive". I would recommend buying the crib mattress new (for lots of reasons), and usually Babies R Us has those in a variety of price points.

Also, try to register for some of it. We were fortunate enough that my parents, knowing they would be long-distance, wanted to help and bought us our crib and changing table/dresser. Lots of places offer a discount on items not yet purchased after your due date--that can help to save some $$.

My husband and I took a "newborn care" class before our daughter was born and that helped us realize that our baby isn't going to really need any furniture except perhaps a bassinet at first! She was in her bassinet until about 5 months old...the crib wasn't even used until 4 months for occasional naps! Some people even use sturdy laundry baskets with a blanket on the bottom when they're super small!

Don't stress about it...your baby will need you and his/her father most of all those first few months. Even if you have to wait until after s/he is born to get the nursery the way you want it--you have time. It might be safer for you to think about it that way too. The last thing you need is early labor because you're stressed about baby furniture!

best wishes!

Craigslist is good - just search locally.

I would check craigs list first, but Overstock.com has almost free shipping($2).

Have you tried Ikea?
Target is pretty good and I found tons of stuff on Craig's List....
Good luck
I hope you are off bed rest soon
