You have already received some good suggestions so I won't duplicate those. I will tell you one place that you definetely should not stay. DO NOT stay at the La Quinta near Military Pkwy. We stayed there 2 weeks ago and I actually filed a formal complaint with corporate. It was awful. I'll spare you the details, but I told them that I would not stay there again even if it was free. I'm not bagging on all La Quintas. I usually like them. it was just this particular location.

Have a blast in San Antonio!

I've found some good hotels using hotels.com. However to qualify for the lower rates, in most cases they do not allow cancelations.

One other one in addition to the ones Ivonne listed is Hotwire. We have used it and had great experiences with the hotels.

I am looking at going to San Antonio too. Someone suggested KOA Campsites. They have 1 bedroom cabins that have heat and air and accomodate 4-6. They also have 2 room cabins that accomodate more and have a small kitchen. BBQ grills outside most of them. Community bathrooms and showers. They are cheaper than hotels, but no free continental breakfast. I'm thinking about it, because the idea of camping indoors with ac sounds kind of fun.

www.HRS.com is an international site I used when I visited Germany. Shows smaller hotels the big American sites don't. I think it also works in the US.

I don't know what your situation is, but you could also look into renting vacation rentals online. My family has always had good luck with them. They are about the same price as hotels and are a home away from home. (You can cook there, too, to save money.) The website I usually use is www.vrbo.com. Another one is www.homeaway.com.

Hi G.,

I just finished a cross country trip and most of the budget friendly hotels offer a clean room, air conditioning, television and internet access, swimming pool, hot tub, and a complimentary breakfast, which consists of coffee, tea, juice, milk, assorted rolls, cereal, in most cases eggs, toast etc. (some a little nicer then others, but all enough to get the day going).

The nicest (in my opinion) is Holiday Inn Express, then La Quinta, Super 8 (there are more but I can't remember all the names)

You can find the cheapest rates online and you must make your reservation online because they won't give you the lower price as a walk in.

If you don't have your laptop with, some of the hotels have a computer in-house, so if you want to take a look at the place before you make a reservation, you can simply sit at their computer and make your reservation then go to the desk for check in.

Have a nice trip.

Blessings....

I usually use hotels.com or travelocity.com. Both are reliable and I never had a problem.

Just be careful if you go through cheap sites because many times you pay up front and you may not get what you think you are paying for.

I manage all of our travel for business and personal and I never go through discounters of any kind. Many hotels have deals if you just ask and you can get a rack rate lower than a discounter. We deal mostly with the Hilton family of hotels and I have negotiated rates in Houston and OK where my hubby goes most often.

Get on a regular hotel site and see what they have to offer. Call and ask. You might be surprised.

I swear by Priceline because you can name your own price. If they don't accept your first offer, try try again. We have always gotten the cheapest price when travelling with friends and such. You pick how many stars hotel you want. I usually start with a bid of half of what they normally charge and go from there. Good luck!
