Wearing High Heels Dancing

I never could wear high heels without my feet hurting. I would love to wear heels when dancing. I see these girls at the club, how do they do it? I am wondering if anyone is a real dancer. What is the biggest difference wearing a dancing shoe and just some pump? Would that help?

My boyfriend is not that tall, so I am not talking big heels but some. I think dresses look better and everything. NEED some suggestions? brand names? or if dancing shoes are the answer?

What can I do next?

Where wedges, it is the best of both worlds..The sexy look of a heel and the balance and comfort of a flat.

Dance shoes are rounded and not pointed, and even though dancers get used to being on their feet shoes made for dancing are more comfortable than regular high heels. Ball room shoes are typically open toe or sandal style:

You may want to try some ball room shoes. Or find a pair of shoes that have a chunkier heel. I can only wear chunky heels in regular shoes. (Dance shoes also have a slightly thicker heel, they aren't stiletto's they need stability for dancing.)

Dancing heels just offer the straps and support in the right place. The heels on them are normally 1 1/2 inches to 2 inches. I used to dance in heels a lot (yes I am a real dance :)~). I don't know if going that route would really be your best bet, or if you would be better off trying to find a good pair of shoes with some cushiony insoles.

Go try a pair of dance heels on at a dancewear store and walk in them....

I love to wear heels and wear heel while I dance....can't really give you much advice on types of heels because I usually purchase on whether I think they are cute...but there are high heel workouts that you could look into - it is suppose to help you walk in them better, feel comfortable and confident so that might help...good luck!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Heels!! I wear them ALL the time. Your best bet is to go to a DSW or similar store and just try on all sorts to find what really works for YOU and not just what's the latest trend. Howevere there are always a pair of must have's staring you in the face and to help with the pain you can get the Dr. Scholl's for heels inserts. You can also try on a 1/2 size larger, I do that a lot. Also if you are looking for a heel that you can wear for more than just going out or special occasions I would recommend a skinnier heel with a slight platform on the ball of the shoe. Funny enough, Jessica Simpson shoes have a lot of these in various styles. Also, Marc Fisher, Guess, Nine West and BCBG are a few that CAN be comfy as well as stylish. Hope this helps!!

Professional dancers just get used to their feet hurting. (And they do... you get taught how to tape them so the blood doesn't stain or show through your shoes). They also take pain meds before dancing (see below).

Buying shoes 1/2 size too big and using moleskin to keep them from slipping (like on your heels and pinky toe), allows your feet to swell as you dance and help. It ALSO allows room to put in gel insoles. Glueing in gel insoles works even on strappy shoes that you wear barefoot.

Professional dance heels tend to have more arch support and heel support than the uber-pricey-flimsy-commercial shoes... but not always.

Wide heels (the kind that flare) are another trick for stability.

If you're wearing tall sexy boots with heels DO wear tube socks.

I'm also a big fan of cowboy boots. And Converse (lol... not heels, but the envious looks from all the women as they see your sneakers, is ALMOST better than having comfy feet all night).

Alcohol can help numb the pain a little. If you're NOT drinking, take 2 tylenol & 3 ibuprofen about 30 minutes before you start dancing. They both help with pain, and the ibuprofen helps with the swelling.

You can check out some pricier brands that are more comfortable. Beautifeel has some really cute heels. I would not "suffer thru the pain".
I have a friend that did that for years, and now she can hardly walk and needs surgery on both feet!!

I wear heels and the best ones that are great for my feet are the ones by life stride. They can be found at Dillards or Macy's. Stuart Weitzman and Anne Klein are also have great heels.

I love to go out dancing and wear heels. It would be wise to check out comfy reviews on shoes before considering them. Try looking on DSW shoes web site. It's great and I've used it a few times. Also you need to consider what time of the month you are going out. I have a "bloated" and "nonbloated" pair of heels. If you are somewhat bloated take a water pill early in the day and drink a bunch of water. Also shoot for the platform type of heel. You don't have to go stripper heel but a nice platform on the ball of your foot helps SO much to take the pressure off of the front of the foot. Also if possible stay away from those sexy little straps that run all across you foot. Ouch. Bold soft straps are the best. If you get a new pair wear them around the house for a few days to help break them in before going out. And I thought that a wider heel would be easier with a platform shoes but really it's not much difference to me.
Hope this helps. Happy dancing!
C.

I am known for always wearing a pair of high-heel shoes and keeping the smile on my face. My trick is to sit as much as possible, giving my feet a break. I can tune it out, too, for short periods of time. (You know how you can refocus your pain when you know that you only have a little ways left to run?) Also--even with my flat feet--my shoes are surprisingly comfortable. Platform shoes that aren't too platform-looking work well. (Check out Jessica Simpson. They're usually cushioned, too.) Wedges are good, too. If you are comfortable and agile in high heels, then these should be easy, especially if you don't even want to go too high. All my heels start at three inches, so I am all about being comfortable AND cute! In fact, I am pregnant and almost 40 and still comfortable in my shoes. So far.

I like zappos.com. Check them out to narrow down what you want in a shoe. I get overwhelmed with TONS of options

I'm not a "dancer" but my husband and I do dance a lot. Eventually your feet are going to hurt after dancing or even walking a lot in heels, but the best things I've found or to use the spongy foot pads with adhesive on the bottom that you put inside your shoe. This helps the balls of your feet. If you're wearing a complete pump, the Dr. Scholl's Gel Inserts are GREAT -but you can see them in sandal heels. Brands that usually have some decent looking heel options but offer comfort/flex soles and extra padding are Sofft, Aerosoles, and lately even Born has had some cute, dressier "clubby" looking sandals. Sofft is my favorite brand for combining looks with comfort.

Someone said that Dr. Scholl's Gel Inserts can't be used with strappy/strapless heels, only full pumps. That's not true anymore, they have them 'for her' that are wonderful. I got a free sample (they are smart they don't send you a pair, just one LOL) will probably buy a pair.

Have fun!

I can't wear high heels either, but if I wanted to I would go to the dance store and buy some Capezio "character" shoes. They come in several heights and colors, and have a thin strap like a Mary Jane. They are made for dancing comfort. Start with a lower heel and see how you do. They are graceful without being extreme. These are well made shoes, designed to support you while you dance. Good luck and have fun.
