I would definetly get a second opinion. Because if you child does not really need glasses and he is wearing them he could end up with bad vision for real.

Did he see an optometrist or an ophthalmologist? A 3 year old is kind of young to be able to tell you how well he sees things. An optometrist would not be well suited to do an eye exam on a 3 year old. An ophthalmologist can and will do a proper eye exam on someone so young.
Sounds like the wrong prescription too. The wrong prescription can give you headaches and mess with your vision. The prescription has to be right on with your sight to the frames too. The optical center has to be in the right place on the lenses. I used to be an eyeglass tech. I used to put the prescriptions in lenses and frames all the time. It has to be just right.
I think your 3 yr old is too young for a regular eye exam. If his vision is really a problem, take him to an ophthalmologist. If not, wait another couple years. All children 5 and under really need to see an ophthalmologist. They are so more advanced than an optometrist. They are real eye doctors and can tell you if there is really an issue. An optometrist can only really give eye exams and write prescriptions. Find a good pediatric ophthalmologist to go to.

Very normal! If it's been a couple weeks and he's still not use to them then take him back. he may not need them. take him to a different doc. and show him shows where the characters wear glasses, like arthur!

GOOD LUCK,
CJR

I am not certain what kind of eye doc you saw- but I would suggest a pedi opthamologist. Dr Helen Hittener (I think is the way you spell...i could get the number if you are interested...) is one of the best as I have been told in Houston. My daughter saw her at 1 yr and then will see her at 18 months too.

My oldest has amblyopia and even now I have had a hard time finding an optometrist (sp?) that I like. We left a great pedi opth when we moved and since my son is older, our pedi said he could just go to the optom...and I was just hoping to do a quick exam and get a prescript or glasses, but most likely next time I will take him to Dr Hittener too.

Second opinions are good... you also should take his glasses back to the eye doc to have the presciption checked. Sometimes the vision places get the script wrong and that could be causing his eye strain as well. Good luck!

When I first got glasses, I remember having a headache, too, and I asked my doctor about it. He said that's just your eyes adjusting to their new sight. It will go away. If it doesn't after a couple of weeks, I'd be concerned, but it is normal.

I would definitely get a second opinion--my little brother wore glasses for years as a child, complaining the whole time that his head hurt, before we finally found out he never needed glasses. If the 2nd doctor confirms that he does need glasses get his prescription checked to make sure its the right prescription and make sure the lenses are centered correctly with his pupils. I was given the wrong prescription on one occassion and on another the lenses were incorrectly centered--both gave me terrible headaches. If he needs glasses and everything is alright with the glasses he was given, have them fitted to his head. I've had problems with headaches when my glasses were too tight on the nose bridge or the ear pieces. I hope you find the right solution for your little guy--good luck! S.

I would take him back to the same place and have them rescreen him with his glasses on and off. Sometimes it does take kids a visit or two to build a relationship. Tell them what he has said about his head hurting. IT may be that his screening did not result in a accurate prescription based on the fact that the screening did not go well. If you are not satisfied, call around and find a Dr. that deals with a lot of children. If you are concerned about his vision development, email me privately for the name of a Developmental Optometrist. They work a lot with children and she even got my autistic son to participate.

Good luck,
C.

Get a second opinion. It's worth the extra money. Find a reputable eye doc. When I was young, they gave me a very strong prescription and told me I'd get used to it. Well, I did and it made my eyesite really bad.

Get a second opinion just to be sure. The damage that could be done if he doesn't need them would be worse than not knowing.

I would get a second opinion. My son went to an eye doctor who put him in glasses when he was 5, but complained of the same thing. We took him to a doctor for a more comprehensive exam (he was having tracking problems when reading) and the doctor said while he was a little near sited, it was within the developmental norms for this age and said he did not need to wear the glasses.

I think that, as a glasses wearer, his prescription is too strong. If glasses are the right fit, you may have some depth perception issues the first day as your eyes adjust, but there should not be headaches.

Don't be afraid to question these doctors. You are his mom, you know him and his needs better than anyone. Most doctors see the child 10 minutes and base their needs on the "average" child. As moms we know, our child is not average, each child is extraordinary in his own way. If the glasses are not working, you would know better than anyone else, so either get a second opinion or just put them away and have his eyes tested again in a few months.

Good luck

I would say to get a second opinion or have him retested. If his head is hurting, it's most probably the glasses. You could also at home give him your own little eye test, similar to the one at the doctor's to see how he does with you then let the doctor know.

Not completely sure (not an expert) but I've had headaches from wearing glasses before and went back - it was the wrong prescription. If you are in the Willowbrook area, I've been recommended to a wonderful optometrist at the TSO located on 1960 at Champions Forest (near Stein Mart). My friend took her son there and the doctor was incredible.

I would get a second opinion. Best to you.

Yes you need a second opinion...headaches are a sign that he is straining his eyes too much...especially if he got it after the glasses are on him....also it might be that he needs to get used to them...either way you may want to get a second opinion...my daughter is very shy also
